We've been plagued by glitches in our sign-up process. We think we've caught them all and fixed them, but perhaps some have slipped by. We want to make our sign-up process as simple and painless as possible. That is what this thread is for!

Everyone who has just signed up to permies will get a link to this thread. Please share any bumps in the road you've encountered while signing up. Thank you!

Hello! I had no issues with signing up, other than that I was trying to sign in and it had me sign up instead. I've been on this fun ride for over 10 years (when I lived in Montana just 2 hrs north of you all). So that was confusing but I don't mind since iy won't change anything that I know of. I've been getting emails and I'll keep getting them, I just look like a new sign up.

Hi Heidi!

Did you end up creating a new account? What was the name of your previous account? I should be able to merge them together for you.

That's odd that you ended up creating a new account--I'm assuming you used a different email on the second account?

Hmm. No *technical* issues here. Signing up was easy - but not quick because I had to parse out your "name" policy which wasn't comfortable. I understand why the naming policy exists but I'm not a big fan. In any case this will have to do.

Hi!

For our naming policy, it doesn't have to be your real name, just one that sounds like one. If not using your real name, please use one that's easily identified as a common name, so it's easier on the staff. For example, if someone's name is Mary, and they don't want to go by it, they could go by Martha or Marissa or Mahayla or Jessica...but not something like Moonchild. You could also use your first initial, like M Stevens.

I hope this helps!

I closed your account.  That should do the trick.  If you ever want to post again, you can re-open it.

At the bottom of nearly every email is a link to fiddling with your email settings so you can choose which emails you want or don't want.

Well, signup went fine, without a hitch, but sure wish I could figure out how to put a thumbnail next to a new topic like everyone else in the forum seems to know how to accomplish.  One actually magically showed up on one, but I couldn't see what I did differently.  Signup itself was good, though.

To make a thumbnail on a post you will need to add a picture to the post.  Here is a thread that might help:

I see you bought the 37th issue of Living Woods Magazine. If you found the download button and clicked on it, the PDF should now be in your computer/device's download folder.

You have perpetual access to that thread, so you can try again as many times as you need to download it. It's a 13mb file, so it might take some time to download.

Also, all of your Digital Market content (either bought or free) is linked to in your My Stuff. You can find out more accessing digital content in this tutorial: https://permies.com/wiki/145304/access-Digital-Market-Goodies-Gift

And this should be a direct link to your mystuff: permies.com/forums/premium/list/#mystuff

I hope that helps!

I had an issue that after I signed up I could not edit my profile info until after I logged out and logged back in again. Maybe this has been fixed though, I joined like 3ish months ago.

The signature is set under the "General information about yourself" tab in the profile settings near the bottom.

We have a big list of tutorials for the site here: How permies.com works - links to useful threads.

There's one especially about adding cover and profile picture here: How to Add a New Cover Picture and Profile Picture

I hope that helps!!

Thank you for a very intersting forum.

The quality of the "security" software's pictures is so grainy that one must guess if there is "a car in" a given picture.  And that after trying to scope out if a truck is a "car" for security purposes. (IT people always know what they mean even if the rest of human folk do not.)

This is not a problem solely at your fine forum.  My insurance company stopped using it for the same reason.   My favorite was the call to click on pictures with "steet signs" when some pictures showed speed limit signs, others steet name signs, others "no Parking" signs.  Turns out, only some were "street signs" in the minds of the IT folk.  0___0

Eventually, one guesses correctly - an infinite number of monkies, and all that.

As I do not anticipate needing to register again, it's no personal tragedy, but it may cost the forum members if those turned away by the defective software are not stubborn enough to try over and over and over to guess correctly.

We just had someone else report this same issue. You should stay logged in for at least a month without having to log in again. Maybe if we have more info, our programmer can figure out what's going on. Would you be willing to share what browser and device/computer/operating system you are using?

Thank you!

I would be happy to but I am not very tech savvy. I usually use my phone (and that is where it happened) which is a Samsung 21s. I have no idea what the operating system would be unless it is that the phone is an android. I'm afraid I'm not much help

Hmmm, I was thinking today that maybe it's related to the length of time you're away from permies? I know that if I don't visit permies sister-site Code Ranch for 10 (maybe less?) days, I get logged out, and I have to log in again.

I'm wondering: When you had to sign in to permies, had you perchance been away for a while?

I hate to burst your bubble but what all the skip stuff I have been checking the site multiple times a day. This last time it happened it was less than 5 minutes. Since some of the stuff is only available for short periods of time I don't want to miss anything. With the slow internet we have here I need time to coordinate getting stuff downloaded. I usually have to go to town where I can get fast internet and download to my phone then come home and transfer to my computer. So I have been checking the site numerous times a day. Hope that helps
