That spider looks like a wolf spider.

These usually are about 2 1/2 inches from foot to foot. They like the garden. I rarely see them in the grass. I think there are a couple tan racing stripes that run down her back. I've seen them carrying around a whitish egg ball.

I think you are right Anne. Wikipedia says they are the only spiders that carry around their young. Good, fairly harmless too.

I am glad I guessed right on the wolf spider.

Unfortunately, I made a wrong guess about the spider in the movie "Charlotte's Web."

I thought Charlotte was a wolf spider though Mr. Google said no that Charlotte was a Barn Spider. (an orb spider)

yep. wolf spiders are hunting predators, and generally don’t make webs. the name gives it away!

Wolf spiders are always welcome in our house, because they eat critters we don't real want around, like flies and scorpions!
