Hello Heather,
I know what you mean- I worked corporate for many years in the IT sector, travelled the world as an IT officer for a very luxurious cruise line for several, searching, just searching...having this itch to get out of the
city permanently and really find my peace... I still work in IT but for a
non profit org now, at least the mission is more heartfelt.
4 years ago I finally found myself on a land up in the mountains. Yep, got my 20
acre slice of a beautiful mountain plateau in Central WA close to the Canadian border (i live north of Seattle). It came with a small
cabin that I've converted into a tiny home, but planning to build soon. The mountains have always had an effect on me growing up- family trips to a mountain resort for a few summers, enjoying the outdoors- camping, kayaking, snow activities, just being in touch with nature.
There's a very small percentage of women that are daring enough to seek the kind of lifestyle I'm pursuing (sigh), and I don't really consider myself a hardcore homestead type of guy. I'm more of a modern homesteader- planning a
sustainable lifestyle, grow veggies, have some chickens, goats to chew down pine grass, plenty of
cattle ranchers around for
beef, and, whatever else paints the canvas but not quite fully off grid- I do like technology. I work hard, cut down
trees and chop
wood, pretty good handyman I must say, i like tinkering with my hands. Quite a mechanic too, just rebuilt my car... sure i can buy a new one but where's the fun with tinkering there- plus the knowledge is invaluable.
I also have family in AZ- Gilbert, Chandler, Mesa... been there many times when i lived in CA before moving up here in the PNW. Anyway, all the best with your search and if you want to connect, just shoot me an email at
reyr24@yahoo.com.
Cheers.
