Looking up my assessment information for USDA survey, I decided to check a neighboring property that appeared to have been abandoned.  It is in foreclosure for 3 years of unpaid taxes some $8 thousand.
It is 9.27 acres about 5 in timber, abandoned brick house and orchard.
Pierce County parcel 0020151001
3715 Whiteman Rd. SW
Longbranch, WA 98351
listed owner: James C & Frances C Harrison
Mailing address: Laura Lundin
10303 46th Ave SE
Olympia WA 98513-9201
the foreclosure will be published in the Pierce County Journal in July

It would be a shame to se it bulldozed and clearcut jus for a quick profit.

If it's being foreclosed on for tax reasons, the information you're looking for can be found on this website:

Staff note (Hans Quistorff) :

Not many are familiar with the potential of this property.  It currently just looks like land overgrown with brambles from the major road frontage.  It is actually a homestead with a mature stand of timber in back.  Hopefully, for potential homesteaders, the logging baroness are not aware of that because the value of the timber exceeds what is owing on the land.
P M me and I can send a picture of the timber from my side.

I looked it up on the Pierce County gis, looks like a fantastic property. Wasn't able to capture a screen shot but you can track it down here Pierce County

Sounds like what here in Indiana is called a tax sale and property value was listed at about $250,000. Unless there is something terrible wrong with it, I bet it easily brings that. In Indiana owners can redeem a property up till the day of sale or even after by just paying the back taxes and fees. You have to wait several years before their right to do that runs out and you can sue for a clear title.

I wonder what happened to the owners that they let it get that far. Maybe since they are known someone could contact them and make a deal to pay it out of tax sale and buy it from them. They get something rather than losing everything and you get a better deal than by bidding. I've seen that happen here a couple of times.

Back story as far s I know it Widow died and the person inheriting it did not keep paying the taxes. I included the address of record in the original post.  If posible contact them and offer to pay off the taxes and purchase the property.  That is the surest way to gain clear tittle.

Tax sale properties usually go up for auction. It's important to do some research to know what the hard value might be.

Thank You,

I live here in Washington, and have been searching for a farm for some time now, but the stars just have not aligned.  This year is looking really good though for making something happen.  I've been into Permaculture since the 90's, and have been dreaming of the day I can start my Dream with my own piece of the pie... I will reach out to the person via snail mail, and see what they say, hope the timing is right...

I appreciate the info
Sincerely
David
