I Want to Buy a Used or New - Tiny Home, Yurt, or RV/Trailer in Midwest

I live in Arkansas with a new property in North Central Arkansas near the Missouri border. I am currently looking into Yurt Kits, Tiny Homes, and RV Trailers either Used or New that would hopefully not be more than $10,000 and preferably much less than that. I have a truck that can tow, so I'm hoping to find something relatively close to Arkansas / Midwest region, but would consider other offers from further away!

Hi,  You should mention what you might use it for.  A home or a camp.  If long term living is the goal, and you get cold winters, then I personally would forget the RV. The walls are thin and you will have problems major with condensation. I keep the RV at 60 degrees and here in the cold snowy north I run through 2 towels for each window every day I camp in the winter.  Plus I go through a lot of propane because the walls are very thin and not effeciently insulated.  Also I have no water or toileting facility. You might be able to find an RV made to be able to handle the winter, but the price might deter you.

I have no idea what the prices are for Yurt Kits though your price range sounds like a used RV is your best bet.

There possibly might be a used tiny house though I feel that might be a once-in-a-lifetime chance.

If I were looking at spending that much money, I would look at the Tuff Sheds.  We built a tiny house with one for a lot less than you are talking about though prices have changed a lot since then.

I would look at what your local options are for sheds and RVs.

Thanks Anne, I had not heard of Tuff Sheds before and that really does look like a feasible option for me! I do plan to hopefully do year-round homesteading, and just want to get something  cheap to get on the property and get started working the land, while eventually building a larger home in the future, so this is definitely something I'll look into

We liked the one we had and thought they we well built.  It was the barn style and we had the roof extended (paid extra if I remember right) so ours was a two-story.  The upper floor was a sleeping loft.

Just for future reference for others. If you want an affordible yurt you can either build your own.(check my yurt posts all things yurts.) You can buy one Groovy yurts or Mongolian fire.Traditional yurts for alittle under 8k.There our modern yurts you can buy for about 12,000 that our 16ft.What we did in southwest and this might not apply to you but I was thinking somthing more along lines of a sheepherder wagon because where I live I had to build something that "wasn't permanent." So I ended up finding an older mobile home and put a wood burner in it.You might look into installing a woodburner in your tough shed and also you you make a solar heater out of wood glass and old gutters/tin cans.Look up Solar air collecting heater.If you haven't already I recommend insulating your walls and your loft.Just giving you some 2 cents and also for others.Best of luck Hope to see some pictures of your progress.

Hi I have a vintage Mobile Scout Trailer. 14 ft long, sink, bath, gas stove, wood stove. I started retrofitting it this fall for homesteading off grid. I have to move on from this dream, and am looking for someone who could utilize it. It has brand new tires, and ball bearings have been repacked and greased. I put in wool insulation from a cool van company. I have not finished the walls. The floor could use insulation too. It's a project still, for someone who wants that. I was working with mostly hand tools, so I didn't accomplish what I hoped. Anyways, let me know if you are interested. It's for sale, $1800. I'm in Arkansas.
