"As we read this, we stand in the plane of the present; we are the sum of all our ancestors, and the origin of all our descendents. In terms of our model, we are at an ever-changing origin, located on the boundary of past and future. As well, we are spinning with the earth, spiralling with the galaxy, and expanding or contracting with the universe. As origins, we are on the move in time and space, and all these movements have a characteristic pulse rate." - Bill Mollison

A few nights ago I had a nightmare . I was driving a stretch of road known locally as "Dead Mans Curve ". As the oncoming traffic approached they began swerving off the road into ditches and trees . I was driving on the wrong side of the road ! I felt a rising panic with the realization of what I had done and the punishment soon to come . Doom ! Instantly I became awake in my dream . You know , aware you are dreaming . I thought " Hey , this is my dream and a dream road of my own . I'll drive where I damn well please . " I began to laugh and woke up laughing . it was 2:30 am and I could not go back to sleep . I felt energized all day . Don't let the oncoming traffic ruin your dream .

“Do not let your fire go out, spark by irreplaceable spark in the hopeless swamps of the not-quite, the not-yet, and the not-at-all. Do not let the hero in your soul perish in lonely frustration for the life you deserved and have never been able to reach. The world you desire can be won. It exists.. it is real.. it is possible.. it's yours.” - Ayn Rand

Our friendships are "co-dependent" . Our families are "dysfunctional". Two men having a friendship is a "bromance" insinuating latent homosexuality . White guy hangs out with black folks is a "wigger" . Black guy hangs out with white folks is an "oreo" . When we try to talk on each others level we are "code switching" . A novice who tries to fit in is a "poseur" or "wannabe" . Women who befriend gay men are called "fag hags" . Kids in school who interact too much are put on ritalin so they will stare into their books . Get a "quick" divorce from a "difficult" marriage . I get the feeling that somebody , somewhere thinks the basic human condition is solitude and isolation .

"One grain, ten thousand grains."

For every seed the Earth receives, it returns thousands Nature operates according the principles of "one grain, ten thousand grains"
For every seed, the Earth receives, it returns thousands. Nature is forever productive, and infinitely diverse.

In the practice of genetic engineering, ten thousand seeds are sacrificed for every one that comes to market, or "from ten-thousand grains, come one grain."

Originally, the heirloom seeds that sustained humanity over the centuries cost nothing; they were given freely by nature. Each genetically engineered seed cost $300 million to bring to market.

We now face a choice between two opposite views of life, one natural, the other artificial. The earth and happiness of all species, could well depend upon which of these two path we choose.

From my friend Bill McKenzie today:

For me and for thousands with similar inclinations, the most important passion of life is the overpowering desire to escape periodically from the clutches of a mechanistic civilization. To us the enjoyment of solitude, complete independence, and the beauty of undefiled panoramas is absolutely essential to happiness.

“How much evil throughout history could have been avoided had people exercised their moral acuity with convictional courage and said to the powers that be, 'No, I will not. This is wrong, and I don't care if you fire me, shoot me, pass me over for promotion, or call my mother, I will not participate in this unsavory activity.' Wouldn't world history be rewritten if just a few people had actually acted like individual free agents rather than mindless lemmings?”

If one strives to emulate those who are respected and admired for their contribution to a field, then a challenge has been handed out: Become knowledgeable and proficient about a subject to the point you are able to deliver a TED talk.

There is more out there. So much more it is difficult at times to understand how limited we are. Break free of your bonds for just a little while to explore the possibilities of what you can become. The first thing you realize is that those limitations are imposed upon us by ourselves.

If the coffee bean had only today been discovered by goat herders on the Arabian Peninsula it would be aggressively marketed across The U.S. as a "Superfood" .

Probably the same result if found in it's native Ethiopia.

"Thus, After having thus successively taken each member of the community in its powerful grasp and fashioned him at will, the supreme power then extends its arm over the whole community. It covers the surface of society with a network of small complicated rules, minute and uniform, through which the most original minds and the most energetic characters cannot penetrate, to rise above the crowd. The will of man is not shattered, but softened, bent, and guided; men are seldom forced by it to act, but they are constantly restrained from acting. Such a power does not destroy, but it prevents existence; it does not tyrannize, but it compresses, enervates, extinguishes, and stupefies a people, till each nation is reduced to nothing better than a flock of timid and industrious animals, of which the government is the shepherd." - deTocqueville 'Democracy in America'

"I have often thought that if heaven had given me choice of my position and calling, it should have been on a rich spot of earth, well watered, and near a good market for the productions of the garden. No occupation is so delightful to me as the culture of the earth, and no culture comparable to that of the garden."

-Thomas Jefferson, in a letter to Charles Willson Peale, August 20, 1811. Echoed by myself some two centuries later.
