Summary

Paul sits down for a quick podcast with Kyle from bootcamp to give an update on the 2021 Rocket Mass Heater Jamboree.

Here is a sample of the planned builds:

1: Rocket assisted solar food dehydrator - about half the build was done during the PDJ, with most of the structure being done and only really needing the core adding and sealing in.  They wanted to use Paul’s precious organic straw as insulation, but settled on using loads of knapweed instead.  Was originally intended to be a modification to the current giant solar food dehydrator, but was forked off into its own design as to keep at least one dehydrator working.

2: Liberator rocket mass heater in the wood shop - currently one of Mudd’s designs and not performing to standard probably because of the added stratification chamber.  Mudd has released new designs that perform much better, so they plan to rebuild it to the new standard and see if it does.  If not, then they’ll have to replace it completely.   Sky Huddleston has released a new rocket heater made of metal with a ceramic fiber lined core dubbed the Liberator 2 and is giving one to Paul for testing, on top of being at the Jamboree for the entire event doing builds.

3: Solarium rocket mass heater - due to be built on the eastern wall of the garage portion of the building.  It’s going to be pebble style with a puppy burner that Paul’s buying in, like the RMH in the fisher price house.  According to Paul, that RMH is hands down the best currently in operation for everything you’d want a RMH to do, including draw and ease of lighting.  For a more detailed description, see DVDs 2 and 3 of the Better Wood Heat DVD set, linked below.  As for why it’s called a “puppy burner”, apparently the core looks like those used in small animal crematoriums.  Lovely.
