Sepp Holzer is coming to Montana

In early May of 2012 Sepp Holzer will be in western Montana.

This schedule is tentative:

He will give a presentation in whitefish for one day.  Then one day in Missoula.  Then seven days at flathead lake. 

I've heard that the price for the seven days will be $200 per day, and $1000 for all seven days. 

There might be a PDC offered immediately before at the flathead lake location - and Sepp might be a guest instructor for that.

Sepp will be transforming a 95 acre property. 

More news as events warrant.

the more I read on his work, the more impressed I am. truly an interesting guy.....

  If I lived in montana, Id find a way to get there for atleast a day.

I predict that there will be at least 50 people that will come from outside of montana. 

Further, I'll be here and involved in the project.  I would think there would be a fair number of people that would be interested in coming to this to visit with me as well. 

Further still:  I think the PDC will be packed.  And a majority of the people attending will be from outside of montana.

I wish I could go to that! I want to live in Alberta... the climate is very similar... would be excellent!

Please provide all the details you can.  I was planning on a trip latter this month with my wife and son to visit Montana.  We're searching for a new home.  I was planning on looking in Butte and Missoula.  

A pilgrimage to hear the mighty Sepp speak would be icing on the cake for sure.  Eh-hem... you too Paul  Seriously.

I have no experience (I'm a computer nerd) but I'm a quick study and the whole permaculture concept really makes sense.  I've been studying it more and more since I stumbled on to it.

Bottom line.  You're right Paul.  This would draw people from outside Montana.  I'm from California, born and raised.

Well, we live just miles away from the site that may be  being visited.Our son lives very close to what I have heard is the perspective site.
  Knowing that this may fall into lands with in the reservation.We of course am very curious to  whether the CS&K Tribes will be involved or not?  Water issues with in the reservation boundaries are a delicate topic and prone to the permitting policies .Do we know if the Kootenai people who are very protective of the area are going to be involved ?

Ditto to person above, this got me trip sign up also.  Great site, Paul.  First heard about you on The survival podcast and have been doing what I can to learn about permaculture ever since.  Even built 2  hugelkultur beds since finding you- unfortunately mostly pine here in the Black Hills of SD...

I just saw that its in 2012. Although I am disapointed I have to wait a whole year.  I am so excited I will start saving money now and hopefully do the PDC too!  I have wanted to do a PDC for a year now but never found somewhere I could really justifiy going, until now.  Such a perfect combo!

There will probably be a PDC. 

There will be a limit of 45 people per session.

She is now taking registrations. 

sweet deal! i am seriously very interested in this, i would be coming up from wyoming, so it would be only about a 9 hour drive. Keep us posted on where we can register! thanks for the info paul!

I accidentally found Sepp's videos on youtube over a year ago and practically fell out of my chair, rolled down the stairs, rolled out the front door and was almost hit by a car. I was shocked! Those videos triggered my interest in all of this. I'm studying under Andrew Faust in NY at the moment and would like to plan a trip to see Sepp speak if I can afford it and was wondering if I could pop over to see how your operation was going, maybe even tent for a week and help out if you needed it. Are you offering anything like that?

Everything is all set up. 

There is a two week PDC just before "sepp week" and the PDC will include Sepp as a guest instructor.  Plus, the PDC will be happening on the same land that Sepp will be "Sepp-i-fying". 

All of the payment stuff is all set up.  There is a limit of 45 people.  I hereby predict that the 45 seats will be sold out in three weeks, so now is the time to get your tickets.

Yup, Paul told me translators are lined up, too! From what I hear, if needed, the landowner can translate as well.

Though from what Paul experienced when Sepp was in Washington, the translators don't always like to translate everything Sepp says! 

I probably won't be able to go, but I'd love to meet him and learn a few things. I don't know of any other permaculture farmer actually making a decent living from the land like he is. I'm attempting to set up a network of urban systems that produce free food and multiple streams of income. It will be the test of whether I can go beyond a system for personal eating to income generation. We'll see if I really know my stuff.

The thing I'm really interested in is how Holzer seals ponds. Does anyone know how he does it and had success do what he does? Share some knowledge?

I know.  I'm pretty sure I've covered it several times in these forums.  If you find the old threads and feel it isn't enough info, just say so in that thread.

I have Katharina on the phone right now.  She says for "Sepp Week":  yes.  She points out that the PDC is managed my Skeeter and she cannot really speak to that.

Katharina says the venue is still being lined up.  Apparently a venue for about a hundred is being sought.    When there is more information, it will be posted here.

The answer may be obvious to some of you but not to me. I've been considering attending a permaculture design certification and I've heard there are some political or, perhaps, well-grounded concerns that some of the programs are not rigorous enough? 

If I get a PDC I would like to know it is well respected enough in the eyes of Mollison, etc. that I would be accepted for higher level trainings or conferences in the future.

Can someone speak to this in general and with regard to this PD instructor in particular?

At the very least I'd like to see Sepp.  What is the quality and the recognition of the ancillary PD program?

Hi Gnat et al,

Good question, what is the quality of the Permaculture design course offered in conjunction with Sepp's 7-day workshop set in Montana.  Would it be acceptable in Bill Mollison's eyes.

There are a lot of courses offered in the world today. As a guess over one thousand pdc's a year are offered.  They vary in quality and in emphasis.  Every design course teacher has a distinct personality and their set of expertise to bring to the pdc.  

So it is good to do some research before choosing your first course.

Left a message on this forum two days ago but didn't get a response. I was wondering, if I go to see Sepp, do you have room at your place for me and a tent for say a week. [...] if I'm going to make the trek out to see Sepp, I would also like to hang with you and if possible Helen Atthow's place as well.

I live about two hours from the site where Sepp will be doing most of this stuff.  After visiting with Katharina yesterday, I think I'm probably gonna bring a tent there. 

I am planning on being wherever Sepp is while he is in town.  I hope that Katharina sets things up so there are opportunities for all of us to visit between sessions. 

Skeeter is gonna be teaching the PDC.  Skeeter is the guy that I took my PDC from in 2005 - something I've mentioned several times in these forums and in the podcasts.

I thought it would be just a class.  I had read all of the books before starting the class.  I thought I was just doing my time so I could use the word "permaculture" in my stuff.  It was one of the best experiences of my life.  And I learned a mountain of things I didn't know I needed to learn.

I cannot say how much of a part I will play in the PDC.  I only just recently got the word that the event was finalized and was accepting payment.

i booked my train ticket! i don't know in what capacity exactly I'll be hanging out in montana lurking around sepp-dom, but mark my words, I'll be there!! For sure I'll be a helping hand with the PDC. I'm in the middle of teaching one in Tacoma, but I look forward to learning more about cold climate strategies, so wanting to learn as well. Flathead, here i come!!

Dan and I signed up for Sepp this morning! Now we are looking for lodging. We are pretty sure we are to NWsted to sleep in the snow in Montana...if ti were to snow and it does snow in May in Montana!
Wish we could go to Pilarsky's PDC too. Maybe a miricle wil happen!.....
