I don't know.

But I need to figure it out today, and since I will need to do it again from time to time,  gonna record it here.  Or maybe someone here knows the solution.

All I know is that davinci resolve colour correction is way over powered for my skill set.  In other programs,  I put what they call an overlay and then fuss with the strength of it.  But I cannot find this option so, there has to be a way that is foolproof enough for me to figure out.

So let's go on this learning journey together.

this is what I'm starting with.

It's supposed to be white yarn.  I couldn't control the lighting at that location, so I did the best I could.

I suspect a better choice would have been to alter the settings on the camera as it usually has a setting for poor light.  Or to shoot in auto.  But I don't like post production in auto because it can shift quite a lot in the same shot and I hesitate to change the light settings in the camera because I forget to change them back and right now they are perfect for most of my filming.

but also, it's too late now so I need to work with what I've got.

I did what the video suggested and got this.

If I pull it over too much, the cast is really blue, so I think I'll leave it here and do the regular contrast and saturation fix.

This fix was both easier and harder than I expected.  My computer is designed for editing but colour grading pushes the limits a lot and I really should have shut down all the programs and done a restart so that Davinci could have more 'thinking power' to work with.  There tends to be quite a bad lag in colour correcting so it's easy to over do it.

But it was a lot easier than any other tutorial I found (most of which are half an hour long and require a good understanding of the hour-long intro video)

Here's the final video I was working on.

I'm so glad I learned how to colour correct for lighting.  It turned out just how I wanted.
