Well, I forked over a pile of money and signed a lot of stuff. Apparently the other folks were signing similar papers about 300 miles away. I walked out with a stack of papers, but no deed. I guess the whole thing will be complete sometime today and I might received the deed on monday or so.

Kinda seems anti climactic.

Still, it feels like there is a 0.1% chance that something can go wonky. So now I wait for the deed ...

I bought a bunch of fiberglass fenceposts and attempted to start to mark the boudary yesterday. Stuff just wasn't making sense. I ended up marking only two out of nine points. After getting home and looking at gobs of maps I now see where things went wonky. I think I'm going to go back this weekend and mark more points.

Congratulations Paul! The culmination of years of yearning and effort. You must be so excited for the future! Best wishes for all you plan to accomplish on this land; I know that you plan a lot. And I'm glad that you are going to meditate long before choosing a name for it; make it a good one : )

P.S. Good luck with your efforts towards 20-person-community-devoid-of-knife-fights, hehe! I think this might be the biggest challenge you have bitten off. Growies are predictable. People are full of crazy.

ahh, congratulations Paul, the culmination of much work & not a little stress.

a door shuts, a door opens - I always like to think The Land calls the steward / caretaker / creative towards it, and can only believe that your land seeks your Mission, to boldly go & all that.

with a bit of luck & some long driving hours, I hope to land about an hour's drive from TL / BC, and greatly look forward to visiting in some form or another, over time.

Just got your daily-ish e-mail announcing you had closed on the land! I am so happy for you!! Welcome back to real land stewardship. (now all you have to do is pay the fed's rent on it in the form of land taxes!) still in all I am so happy for you I feel like doing a happy dance!
If I weren't already deeply rooted here in Lone Oak, Texas I'd be tempted to head on up there. But you'd likely make me leave my Bowie knife here in Texas as you object to folks stabbing each other -- joking, honest! I don't even own one. Want one, though as they are useful tools.
Wish you the best of luck, Paul and am looking forward to updates on Permies. Providing you have time to waste sitting at a computer. Now that it's spring my land here in Texas is keeping me busy. It will slow down when it finely gets hot though.

Very cool! I like Deep Roots too! But I am sure the name will come to you as you work the ground and bring forth the farm. I hope you will be able to document and share. I have learned so much and have so much more to learn. Good luck with the community part too!

You have shared so much with us newbees for soo long...And now you get to do the fun stuff.....
Re: naming the farm...
Name it quick - Don't wait....We've had 2 properties now...The first one didn't get named so we referred to it as Del Purto.... The canyon it was in....Never did get past that....The next one, we kept thinking up fabulous names, but couldn't settle on one, so the property is just referred to with the street name..
It's kindda like when you have a child, but once the child is born you have to just choose something...
