That was fun to see so many permies on the live feed. I thought it went great. Anyone catch the guy's name who did the "in between" presentation/poem thing? You know the pro-wrestler guy with the awesome beard and the trash compactor finishing move. I'd like to find more of his stuff.
Great job Paul. Its pretty cool to see a down to earth, normal man, wearing overalls on a TED Talk. I really want to use the RMH and the Wofati home on our place but I honestly have no idea on where to start and the scope of such a project. I have the land but getting your head around such a job is daunting.
I thought it was a pretty good talk, it was accessible and made sense. I often wonder sometimes it is the simple things that it seems would make the most sense to work on, like heat or soil building, but often we are driven to work on things that have more novelty.
I also think that it must be hard to narrow down what you want to talk about, obviously any one who is serious should spend 3 hours watching your bricks video but I have found few folks serious enough about changing the world to find the time to do so. Present Permie company But excluded.
I was disheartened to not here you drop the word permaculture 7 times. I think it is a good strategy and that the Ted talk was a missed opportunity to expand the Permie Pie.

Is this posted somewhere else where one can buffer? I had no problem watching part 2 and 2 [sic], but that last video is just not working for me and I give up.
-- update: I reloaded the page and now it works. Just had to bitch!
And another update: Really wish those vids would buffer, but for the most part Paul came through loud and clear. A great presentation!
I wasn't able to get it with Internet Explorer so I switched to Google Chrome.
Nice talk, Paul. Certainly puts to rest the idea that permaculture is only about gardening. I loved seeing the detail on rocket mass heaters. It took me back to some of the first things that I read on Permies.com

Started a little shaky in the beginning but once you got comfy up there you stole the show. The rocket heater portion was amazing and hope it peaked some interest.
I'm back. And I'm exhausted. I was seriously stressing out over the presentation because it seemed like I was being told that i could not give the presentation my usual way. And it was delving into territory where I had serious troubles memorizing stuff. My rehearsal the night before was a disaster - complete faceplant about three times. I just could not remember what was supposed to be said at that point, or even what the next slide was.
After the rehearsal i added some slides to help me get past the glitches and then emailed the complete slide set to the ted folks that night.
I was told that there would be a screen in front of me so that I could see the slides ahead of me - but they moved the screen to be further back. Back far enough so I could not read it. Uh oh.
As I walked onto the stage I was certain that this was going to be a disaster. There would be a full on face plant.
I honestly don't know what exactly happened. And .... I know this will sound really weird to most of you .... but it was like God came down and said "don't worry Paul, I'll help you out." So for 19 minutes I was blessed with better memory. I even added in the whole "rotisserie" thing on the fly. And a few others.
I was expecting to get a score of 1.4 (out of 10). I was thinking that with a bit of luck the best I could possibly do would be a 4. I think I ended with a score of 6.5. it might seem like no biggie to the rest of you, but to me it was miraculous.
I guess I am gushing with gratitude that it went so well. I'm glad that it is behind me. And now I am digging through the work that piled up while I focused on the TED talk.
It sounds like they will put out polished videos later. I saw a woman taking pictures during the event with a fancy camera - I suspect my picture was taken. I've asked for copies.
The keynote I did last spring was easy. I just read my slides and made comments along the way. Zero memorizing. I was never nervous.
The bigger the crowd, the better I do.
I was disheartened to not here you drop the word permaculture 7 times.
In hindsight, it would have been good to say permaculture a bunch of times. And there were several things I intended to say but forgot.
And you got through the whole thing with no untoward language--very impressive.
I think I filtered myself about eight times. The top dog at the event said that I did say something once. I'll have to watch the video.
The most fun part of the event was being in the green room with the other speakers. We could laugh and make comments about everything which would not be allowed in a regular ted talk.
Thanks for all the support folks. Jocelyn was with me and kept whispering the notes to me when time allowed. And that was a big help. I would also like to thank Jocelyn for taking such good care of me through all of this.
This is a great talk, another stout brick for the empire. I like how you focused on solutions that hit home with a large cross section of the population.
Seamless, direct, humorous, and informative, you nailed it!
Thanks for doing it Paul. God is definitely on the side of a good motive, and that's what you were there for. Glad you remembered and it wasn't a faceplant for you!
I've been meaning to watch this for 2 weeks now. I've been meaning to write this post for 2 weeks.
It was also my intention to cut & re-upload the video elsewhere for folk to watch/download but i'm travelling with a busted slow laptop and not the usual tools at my disposal. deferred success.
can't argue with the view:
just look at all this potential down in the South of Spain.
I'm just bummed I didn't find out about the Tedx or Paul until after it was all over and done. Mostly because I live in the Flathead and it would have been simple to get there for me.
Best part, I have found out about Paul and his plans in time to help him with his plans for world domination from a hollowed out volcano with great submarine access near Missoula, Montana.
Loved it - it was also great that I could introduce my kids to Duke Paul without any of that ornery cussin' that makes me have to hurriedly mute the podcasts before my wife walks in.

I am currently listening to Paul talking. The key is to move the slider on the bottom video to that 2:45:00 or so point. I spent some frustrating time trying to figure it out - until I followed Mariamne's directions.
