I wonder if older civilizations used Humanure and if there were any side effects from using it.

Anyone have any thoughts on this?

I use Scott toilet paper and have good results with it breaking down. I never knew that medicines would be bad for composting because I thought you're body would use them and change them.

Can you use the same things in humanure as you do in regular compost? What are the do's and don'ts when making humanure?

How long do you have to wait before you can use Humanure in a garden? Is this even a good idea if you plan on eating or selling the veggies? I've heard the best way to use it is in planting a tree or bushes.

Stopping the flow of water and storing it would be my biggest challenge. The wooded areas seem to slow the water down and have a lot of saplings that could be removed and other things to grow could be put there. I have some washout of my drives so every year I have to fix them. I understand the use of swales and terraces could help with growing stuff and keeping most of the water on my land. Hugelcultures would probably benefit me the most. It is a lot of work for just one person and I'm not the young man I once was.

I live on 2.6 acres and it's mostly on a hillside. What aspects of Permaculture would work best for my terrain? I have some wooded areas and some open areas and the majority of the land is sloped.

Thanks, Gene

You'll find a lot of info on IC.org about intentional communities. Where is the location?
