Has anybody ever seen orange spots on mallow plants?  One of the mallow plants here seems to be under attack by this stuff.  Anybody know of ways to prevent this?  Foliar sprays?  Companion plants?  Any tips would be appreciated.

I dont know much about prevention but I have consumed lots of it over the  years.Just ignoring it has worked for me.

There is nothing permanent in a culture dependent on such temporaries as civilization.

When I worked in a retail nursery in Seattle, WA we rarely carried ornamental Malva spp. because rust was so common.  I am not aware of a solution.  If you are in PNW (assumed by moniker), this has been a nasty spring for such vulnerabilities.

Mallow (and hollyhocks) does best in poor soil.
If the soil's rich, rust tends to be a problem.

Good to know!  Mine just happen to be growing in the richest soil on the property!  oops...
