This 3- week, bi-lingual certificate course will explore the core principals of Permaculture Design and applications with the intention of meeting human needs as individuals, within society and community as well as creating harmony with ecological systems. With lectures and field- work we will explore different bioregional design techniques, natural building, renewable energy alternatives, waste and watershed management, community development, tropical orchard and garden design by creating and constructing diverse and sustainable ecosystems. The techniques discussed will be implemented in various projects around the farm. One of the most exciting aspects of this course is that students will visit and work with 2 other Permaculture projects as well as Punta Mona to examine and learn from the land and the variety of "invisible structures", or the human dynamics that also need to be cultivated and constructed in Permaculture Design. Most of the time will be spent at Punta Mona, a family owned education center with an ever changing world wide community of staff, interns, student groups, locals and daily visitors. We will visit and design with Tacotal, a pioneering project where 30 families and friends from the United States, Mexico, England and Costa Rica decided to homestead, preserve and develop 78 acres with a limited budget. We will also visit Eco-Villa Kopali, located a few hundred meters below Tacotal in the Rio de Machuca Valley as a Permaculture based housing development where the residents chose the land, not each other and as they enter into community and an extensive genetic bank!
After registration we will provide you with the course syllabus, recommended reading materials, travel information and FAQ’s.
