If you live in Montana, Utah, Washington, Idaho or Oregon and would love a chance to meet Paul personally and hear him speak, we’re looking for folks to help organize or participate in casual, community potlucks.

Maybe you’ve got a project you’re wrestling with and want to bounce ideas off others—or even Paul himself.

Maybe you’re just craving time with people who share your love for homesteading, permaculture, and living more simply.

Or maybe you’ve built something cool—a garden, a homestead, a composting system—and you want to show it off and inspire others.

Host Paul for a potluck and enjoy an afternoon in his company.

Paul Wheaton is an inventor, teacher, permaculture pioneer, and a man on a mission to help people live better, richer, more sustainable lives. Whether you’re brand new to Paul’s work or have followed him for years through his forums, videos, and projects—this is your chance to connect with him, and with others, in a friendly, down-to-earth, delicious way.

How about north west Montana? Libby in Lincoln county perhaps? I don’t know permies here but there are many people who are concerned about the environment. My home is earth sheltered and I garden on the roof. I am working toward sustainability for my children, grandchildren, and their children as the environment, social and physical, changers.

Beautiful garden, Roberta! Hopefully, you wish to show it off?

Same question for you: are you willing to organize a little event, maybe at your place?

Alaska, as good as it sounds, is a little far. Paul is willing to drive 7 or 8 hours from his Montana home.

Let’s see what he has to say about it, though!

At the moment, I do not have "real id" nor do i have a passport.  Therefore, I am not allowed on planes, trains or boats.  Nor am I allowed across the canadian border.  So I cannot go to alaska.

That's a bit outside of my range. Although I have been wanting to see a thing in denver https://meowwolf.com/visit/denver

I wonder if there could be a series of potlucks there and a different series to come back.

Just a thought, what about a Colorado, Kansas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, etc. series? Start in one state then do a circle back to the beginning. Living in Kansas there is the Kansas Permaculture Institute doing projects throughout the state. It would just be a matter of getting things set up in each state.

I'm thinking Paul might be keen on something like this if people do the organizing. I know he's usually overworked with too many things on his plate and note enough hours in the day. But, if people get everything set up, that makes it a lot easier and probably more feasible.

Good point! Overworking is no good and is stressful. Maybe someone will in the next few months start a thread about another hosting or potluck event.

I could host a bbq or something in Salt Lake, but we don't have much of any permies related stuff going on at our house. I've got some earthen building stuff going on down in Escalante area, but that's pretty far outside your range.

You could start a thread fishing for SLC interest.  You could say that you would be glad to host, but are hoping for bigger hosts (or something).  Basically, get the discussion started, share a link in this thread, and we will see what we can get going.

Hello Paul,

I would be willing to host a potluck in Sedro Woolley, WA.  If you have potential interest in coming to the area.  I could also post to the Regenerate Cascadia group and see level of interest.

What are the approximate dates of the trip?

With regard to Libby, I have a guest room and could host two or three people. Calendar here is pretty open although I may have family here for a week or so in September.

hmmm ...   i am gonna be in portland on sep 6

https://permies.com/t/282327/portland-oregon-september

Would it be okay to be a bit mid-week-ish, say, sep 9?  A bit of a dinner potluck sort of thing?  If so, I could head that way after portland.

My name is Mark ludeman. I own a forty-acre farm and forest halfway between Portland and the Oregon coast, Cannon Beach, Seaside
I can provide rooms and a space for a gathering and a potluck
I have Paul twice. I hosted him a number of years ago when he did his bus tour  at my   store in Beaverton, oregon
I first met him when Sepp Holzer came to Oregon and Washington and spent several days with them, which was life-changing

Hi Paul,
This is such a fun idea! If you are still looking for more stops on your trip, we would be wiling to host a potluck at our home. It would be nice to connect with more people who are interested in permaculture in our local area. We live in Salkum WA. Its just outside Chehalis/Centralia WA and only about 2 hours from Portland. We have 7 acres and a creek and swimming hole that's gorgeous this time of year. We have some homestead projects like a small orchard, garden, foraging on our land, and chickens, but are relatively new to homesteading/permaculture. We'd love to have a conversation and share inspiration for simple and bountiful living!

I can make a really good pie! But I also love cooking "food as medicine" style.

We are available anytime August 10th-Sept 2nd.

Best,
Emily and Jared

Certainly I could get a group together in Libby, any date that is convenient for Mr Wheaton. Again, I have a guest room and could provide accommodations in two bedrooms with separate bath. I have a “no steps” entrance option and am aging in place. The rooftop garden is a bit of an uphill hike, needs grandson muscle to neaten it up. Dogs and cats live here.

I will try to make Sandpoint but would enjoy putting something together here in Libby.

Let us know how we can assist you, and what time you are coming Yes, we can provide a room just let us know what you need  thanks

I am a part of a group in Missoula, MT that is exploring shared living and communal ownership situations. We are currently meeting monthly to share a meal and learn together.

I'd previously met Paul at Dr. Vicki Watson's in Missoula a few years ago, and would love to host him for a potluck and discussion.

Hi Paul, Sorry for the delay I was checking my September calendar. We had some plans cancel - What dates in early September are good for you?

I was hoping for good weather, since our outdoor space for hosting is bigger than our indoor space…. But that’s ok, if not. I can do Sept 27th/28th, but if we do early September the weather might be better

We have a guest room with a comfortable pull out bed, that you are welcome to. If you don’t mind a house full of kids. We’ve got 4 kids. They are 7, 5, 3, and 4 months. You’d have your own room. Bathroom is shared with kids.

I will be doing a potluck west of portland on september 7.    So maybe september 8?  Since that is a monday, perhaps it could start at 5:30 in the evening?
