This is a badge bit (BB) that is part of the PEP curriculum.  Completing this BB is part of getting the sand badge in tool care.

Sometimes bicycles need to have their shifters adjusted.

From the video description:
"Learn how to properly adjust the rear shifting on your bike for better performance!  The bike I use for the demonstration is a Trek Madone equipped with a Shimano Ultegra derailleur."

To get certified for this BB, post a short video (2 minutes or less) that shows

 - Before, During, and After shifter adjustments

Here is my submission for the Tool Care - Sand - Adjust Shifters on a Bicycle BB.

I decided to attend a bike clinic at 2nd Cycle to get some help with the brakes and shifters.  The clinic offers instruction and staff assistance.  Shelbi did a bicycle inspection and found my bike in good repair and was impressed by the integrated Pannier Rack.  The brakes and shifters both needed adjusting.  With the chain on the middle gear of the triple (the front or pedal gear), I captured video of the chain skipping as it moves to a bigger cassette gear.  I adjusted the Barrel Adjuster - not the cable length - and the bike now shifts smoothly

To document the completion of the BB, I have provided the following:
 - a video showing Before, During, and After shifter adjustments

This is my mountain bike. It is a recreational tool and it keeps me happy and healthy by letting me explore the trails. Good shifting is ket to getting around on any bicycle and the principles are the same for most shifters and derailleurs:

My front shifter cable outer housing had disintegrated, preventing me from shifting up a gear on the front cassette. I discussed my problems in more detail in my bike maintenance thread.

I followed this Park Tools video to replace my front shifter cable and housing.

This is my video showing me replacing the shifter cable and housing on my bike:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xp__Q0bB1WU

And the status after replacement but before adjustments here:   https://youtu.be/Xp__Q0bB1WU?t=334

It still did not shift into third gear on the front cassette after replacing the cable, so I determined it needed adjustments.

I followed the process in this Park Tools video to adjust my front derailleur.

This is my video of me doing each shifter adjustment detailed in the above guide:

Finally, my front derailleur is working perfectly again. At the end of the video you can see the chain properly shift onto each gear with no significant lag.

Worked on my daughter's bike and the chain was not shifting propperly. It actually over shifted and got stuck. I took a picture of that. Then I took a very bad video of adjusting the screw for the high gears clockwise. It seems to have fixed the problem. There was no issue with the lowest gears so I left well enough alone.
