Clean and Oil a Portable Power Tool - PEP BB tool.straw.cleanandoil

These are the steps I took.
1) Check the manual and made sure I knew what I could and couldn't take apart.
2) Check there's no battery attached
3) Brush all surfaces with a soft brush, removing almost all the dust
4) Removed the blade
5) Cleaned the area with the brush
6) Removed the buildup of dust inside the guard with a flat bladed screw driver
7) Cleaned the blade's teeth removing the caked on dust with a a flat bladed screw driver
8) Checked every nook and cranny
9) Reassembled
10) Removed the rule and cleaned
11) Final once over checking all dust removed
12) Oiled moving bolts, wiping off excess

My old drill burnt out recently. I'm not sure if it was using it with a whisk to make clay slip or using auger bits on wet, stringy willow. Either way, it got too hot and the brushes melted the holder and it stopped working. Time for a service and a clean!

I stripped down the drill and identified the problem. I removed the armature, as this was looking quite burnt, the brush holder and the brushes. I also cleaned out a lot of old sawdust from inside the drill housing.

I ordered replacement parts (£25; it would have been £75 for a new replacement drill) and fitted them. I also topped up the grease in the gearbox although, to be honest, it didn't look too bad even after 7 years!

After reassembly, I gave the drill and battery a good clean on the outside. There was some clay residue and a lot of oil/grease marks. Some of the staining wouldn't budge but it does look cleaner.
