The blade was pretty blunt out of the box when I bought it a year ago. It was cheap and I now wish I’d bought an authentic Japanese Hori Hori. It’s still an excellent tool especially for planting bulbs. Japanese kitchen knives are traditionally sharpened on one side, not both. This is a garden tool, so I sharpened both sides. It was harder than a flat blade because you need to very different hold angles on either side. Here are the steps I took.
