My dad was a PG rated Archie Bunker. Meanwhile, I've worked with and been friends with people of all races, religions and creeds. I think that's the way things have generally gone. There were a couple of cities nearby where I grew up. One was all Blacks and one was all Irish. Every weekend they would fight and a few would get killed. It went back and forth, one week Irish would kill blacks, the next week it would be the other way. That doesn't happen anymore.

I think things have gotten better but with the advent of cable news and the internet, what little fighting there still is, gets amplified.

We are in a political hot time but it will pass. 1968 was a hot time but it passed.

I give this book 10 out of 10 acorns!

Are We Done Fighting? does a great job of providing "tips to understand yourself and your own feelings, improve your relationships with others, or work nonviolently for social change!"

The book is well-organized by subject matter. It has sections on Peace and Power, Communication Skills, Violence and Interpersonal Peace, Inner Peace, and Structural Peace. Each section is divided into chapters that expound upon the idea(s) that is to be expressed in that section. Each section begins with a statement of what will be learned and investigated in that section. Each chapter begins with a wonderful and relevant quote. Then, the idea for that chapter is discussed at reasonable length, but not too long. I appreciated that the chapters were kept fairly short, because that lends the book being able to be picked up and put back down easily (which is good for its intended purpose of- action!). After the idea(s) is discussed in that chapter, it is followed up by Tips, which behave kind of like a summary of the chapter. After Tips, there is at least one or more Activities. Then, there may or may not be a detailed Example at the end of the Chapter that demonstrates the concept being conveyed in that Chapter. I also appreciated the Appendices- What We Mean by a Culture of Peacebuilding and The Basics of Facilitation- for providing more information to make the Are We Done Fighting? more insightful and actionable.

I loved how well cited Are We Done Fighting? is, because it really demonstrated how much time Matthew spent working on this book and learning the subject matter, so that the readers don't have to go read all of these things by themselves! I liked how interesting some of the sources were, and being able to visit these sources in the Notes section on those Chapters was quite nice.

I enjoyed the writing style of Are We Done Fighting?. It conveyed information in an easily digestible manner that felt kind of like a mix of one-on-one conversations, narration, and lecturing.

Overall, this is a wonderful book for anyone who is wants to help develop peace within themselves, with others, or within any larger scales their hearts desire!

Thanks so much for reading it Dave, and also for all of the posts raising topics from the book. I've been really interested to see what everyone on permies.com has to say about these tough and complicated issues! Looking forward to the conversations over the next week too.

I am Reading the free chapter 6, and already got a nice heart felt at Reading the special introduction to explain why this chapter.

And for fun, llet me quote and comment… about how do we know we’re not acting on false beliefs...
" We even think we’re more likely to win the lottery if we pick the numbers ourselves instead of having them randomly assigned. While obviously wrong..."

what what? How do you know you do not have a false belief here? ;)
