I am lucky in that I purchased this land to build on. It has electricity, a septic system and water already from a previous double wide trailer. I've designed (with a little help from an architect) my new home but he was not too familiar with grey water systems. He just looked into the codes and probably forgot about it after seeing they were not allowed. I have not started building yet but hopefully in the next six months.
My land is pretty flat the whole way around aside from a few low spots here and there. Any suggestions or recommendations for books with design plans? I'm trying to build mostly myself (Unfortunately,Florida also mandates the use of a general contractor or else they won't insure) with as little help from contractors but right now that's looking less and less feasible.
It's terrible that a guy with plenty of years of framing experience, a father-in-law whom built his own home by himself, and a retired buddy formerly licensed in electrical and plumbing, can't come together and build a simple four walled home.
