I posted a long reply to this thread earlier then had problems posting it.  The system wanted me to log in and then my reply was gone. I am just testing to see if I can reply.
Staff note (Nicole Alderman) :

I moved Anne's post here to Tinkering, in case other people were dealing with the same issue.

We've been having some problems with our servers that we are working hard to resolve. It happened to me four times yesterday. I did find that if I wend "back" my post was still there, so I copied it and repasted it after I had logged in.

Permies is actually pretty good about keeping posts that we're in the middle of writing. I've rebooted my computer and reopened my browsers, and my post was still there. I've closed and re-opened tabs, and the post is still there. I've naviggated away from a post I was writing and then "back" to my post (sometimes as much as 6 "backs") and it was still there.

So, you might be able to reopen the tab and go "back" until you find where you wrote your post.

We should hopefully be past this little "bump in the road" quickly!

Thank you, Nicole.

"So, you might be able to reopen the tab and go "back" until you find where you wrote your post."

I tried that ... it was just gone.  When I logged in it was gone so I tried the back button.

Glad to know I am not the only one.

Is there some thing going on that the system keeps logging me off?

I usually have my settings to keep me logged in all the time.  I had to log in to make this post.

Earlier II tried to post a long post and when I clicked "submit" I had to sign in and my post was lost.

I haven't had this problem (yet).

Does it go away if you clear your browser history/cookies/cash?  There was a big update the other day, so maybe old cookies are stale?  or whatever happens to cookies inside the computer.

Is it happening in one browser more than others?

Has anyone noticed any patterns about when the log offs happen? So far, mine seem pretty random, but maybe someone else has spotted a pattern. If we can spot a pattern, it'll be easier to find the problem.

It seems to be random but on the other hand it won't let me sign in with my name, just the email I use works and it refuses to accept the "stay logged in all the time" check box.

I have to re-log in every time I make a post, then before I can get back onto the forum, I have to re-log on another log in page. So I have to log in, then log in to a new page I have never seen before for every reply I make.

You're right, it is a white page, that looks I think like the old forum view. Let's see if we can get some screenshots of it. I'll try to take one the next time I get it.

It seems to be random but on the other hand it won't let me sign in with my name, just the email I use works and it refuses to accept the "stay logged in all the time" check box.

Weird, it lets me use the check box, and I've been using my login name, not email address. I'll see if it lets me do the email address the next time it happens.

Maybe if I think about how I'm "testing" and "collecting data" every single stinkin' time I have to log in, I won't be so grumpy about it!

Look at me testing and collecting data! I got logged out again after trying to make a Quick Reply. I successfully used the check box and my email address to log in. Here's the log in screen. Lets see if I can post it without me getting logged out!

It seems like there are many things that are triggering the site to log folks off.  We're taking a good look at it and I hope that we'll have a fix soon.  in the meantime, please report any oddness regarding this issue in this thread.  Those reports help us to make things better, faster.

When I got up this morning, the problem appeared to be fixed.

After about an hour, I closed the forum to go cook breakfast.  When I returned, I find I am no longer logged in.

I logged in in order to make this post.
