Hey all, with the near sight of an extremely cold winter this year i wanted to help my parents out with energy conservation to help keep our gas and electric bill down. I know the basics of building an RSMH, but what i need to know from somebody more knowledgeable on the matter or have gone through it themselves is. How did you convince the insurance to go through with it, and also if anyone could make a list of the possible safety hazards it has it would be MUCH MUCH MUCH APPRECIATED. Thank you in advance.

Caden Hastings ; Welcome to Permies.com, our sister site Richsoil.com, and a Big Welcome tothe Rocket and Wood Stoves Forums!

Your timing sucks badly, our Forum leaders Erica and Ernie Wisner are headed to wheaton labs for an innovators gathering ! with your answers !

Membership has its privileges, every Member can use Google search to search thru every Forum thread ever written and I have found some info for
you to Look at!

A thread labeled : Rocket Mass Heater Compliance to Code was posted and Erica replied to the original poster on june 25 2013 -to find and read
that post with her fine thread extension Goto the leftsideof this page near the top and find : ->

permies >> forums >> energy >> rocket stoves and clickon rocket stoves, this will direct you to a listing of all of the threads posted to

this forum, newest first ! I will move the RMH compliance to code to the top, close to your thread -where you will find it

I selected this post to lead off with because if you can get a code office to accept the RMH as meeting code you SHOULD be able to get Insurance!

Further, I know that the Wisners have had success with getting permuted in at least one location. As of 2009 they had a request in with the city of Port
-land Oregon Alternative Technology Advisory Committee and I believe that it is this city where the Rocket Mass Heater is in compliance to code !

After you read the above mentioned thread extension you will wish to do further searches, the search button is located within the Permies Toolbox at the
top right of this page. After you enter a subject, make sure you are doing an all forums search and make sure you are searching within Permies !

If you have a question or need more information, again like the permies search function -your fellow members are here 24 / 7 to help you!

If there is a Rocket in your future your fellow members will help you find it ! For the good of the craft ! Big AL

Think like Fire! Flow like a Gas! Don't be the marshmallow! As always your comments and questions are solicited and welcome ! A. L.

Caden H. Just now while researching another question, I found a page on permitting at erineanderica.info/rocketmassheaterpermitting .

Briefly they explain that if your Code enforcement /permitting department has dealt with permitting Masonry Heaters it is sometimes
very easy to get permitted in that class of heating unit !

Pay close attention to the required set backs way from walls and other flammable objects with permit in hand you should be able to get
insurance ! for the good of the Crafts ! Big AL !

Seriously Rick? Seriously? You might as well just read this tiny ad:
