Hello Permies,
We have a few farm cats around, which is great. They help with ground squirrels, and those lower prey levels help keep rattlesnake levels lower. Yay, farm cats!

But, one of them has decided that my office-conex is a cozy birth suite. She is snuggling in behind my canvas zoom-backdrop curtain, on top of a seed chest, I think, and I believe the kittens are imminent.

What does the forum think? Shall I evict her, or let her stay?

Pros: it's a safe place, and it would likely to allow us to tame a kitten or two if we want (mother cat is ~2/3 feral, allows intermittent catching/petting, but not really your friend).

Cons: it's my office, as well as workshop, and there would be cat birth leftovers (which are probably minimal, they are placentaphageous) and then a few weeks(?) of tiny mewings. I would not be able to fully shut up my conex at night, to allow her to hunt & do her thing in the yard.

It's mostly a funny conundrum, which is why I submit to public input, but I welcome especially input based on "that happened to me and here's what I would NOT do again..." in either direction.

Thanks!
Mark

[EDIT - I realize that while I was typing this post, she was delivering the kittens. It was but a few minutes after I posted that I heard the first faint mewings. So anyway, the question is thoroughly settled! Thankfully, she took up residence in a nearly-empty cardboard box, so any messes can just go away when they are done being tiny unmoveable creatures. Life is funny.]

I would let her stay.

After giving birth she may want to keep the kittens there.

If you move them she will very likely bring them back one at a time.
