The bees were from an intentional colony, they are kept by the gardener that I was chatting to. He has had his hives at the gardens for over 13 years.
Ironically, he had checked them just two weeks ago and he thought he'd removed all the extra queens but obviously not.
Fortunately, there are plenty of fruit trees within the gardens for the bees to choose from.
We had been chatting about a request from another gardener who wanted to keep a hive at the gardens.
Clearly a novice beekeeper otherwise she would have know about the beekeeping etiquette to not have different hives within a certain distance of each other.
