I need help identifying this animal

The skull is about 10 inches along the side and 3 and a bit inches across, I was thinking coyote or dog maybe?

The corpse appears to have the remains of a nylon harness attached to it. I'm betting dog.

Edit: are those three small holes in the rear of the skull? Shotgun pellets?

Sure looks like a dog.  Is the skull with the holes in it, from the same animal?

I ask because it may be a coyote.  This coyote skull (from my daughter's collection) looks spot on:

I have no idea they were there when I found it :/

There are holes all along the back though
