One of the advantages of taking forever to build and living outside is that you get an intimate knowledge of the climate.

What we know is that when it is scorching hot any relief comes in the form of breezes especially at night.

Therein is a problem or solution depending on how good a mood you are in.

The cool air comes from the north-west.  Our building is ON the NW boundary and it is prohibited to have a clear and or opening window on boundary.  Despite no dwelling next to us.

We are contemplating putting a small opening window in and dealing with the consequences which may range from a verbal warning to a monetary fine and being required to brick it up.

We are allowed grill openings just below ceilings up no more then 1/2 meter square.    Maybe that's the solution. Should we put in example 3 of them every 1/2 meter?

I've read about wind pipes that bring in cool air too.

I will put in a window that opens on SE wall and that will divert air in at times.

Want to put in rocket mass heater to act as heat escape chimney in summer if we paint flue black.

Picture
Yellow is rock ruin. Only opening is existing door way.
We are building blue building.
Thinking about putting door on edge and opening window in one wall.
Window in other wall.
Where breeze comes from is on boundary with restrictions on openings.

Can you install a wind tower on the roof to pull the wind into your building.
Wind towers have been described on this site.
Or have an opening flap on the roof, a bit like the ones you see in greenhouses.

Thank you John.
I'll look into those for the rock ruin but think the ruins roof my shield the new extension as the rock ruin is higher.

You can adjust how high the structure needs to be to work, its just a matter of  designing it.
Good luck
