Here's the
Seattle KOMO News story and video about a double mastectomy cancer survivor who wanted to swim topless in a public pool because any top parts of swimsuits caused pain to the scars on her chest.
Jodi Jaecks wrote:If I called myself a man and walked into that pool they would have no problem with my body, but if I am a woman who's had breast cancer with the exact same body and I go in there then it was offensive or inappropriate. I just thought that was ludicrous.
I do
think this is an interesting social issue. I have an ex-sister-in-law who also had a double mastectomy with no reconstruction. She LOVES the sun, and now mows the
lawn topless (if not other outdoor things, too).
Americans have problems with topless beaches that are normal other places, and can't seem to handle this, either. Hm.
