Help! I left these guys too long... should I even bother inoculating logs with them?

Ugh I ordered these and I have been so busy between getting a huge garden planted, three small kids, getting Covid among everything else.. I’m so bummed! Are these still viable?

I would. What do you have to lose? I'm no mushroom expert, but since there isn't a puddle of goo at the bottom of the bag, I think they may have a chance. My 2c, feel free to demand a refund.

Yes, definitely use them! They have fully colonised the dowels which is why they are starting to pin, but it takes a while before the mycelium are not strong enough to colonise a log. I reckon on the right log you'd still have good results, particularly if you have wet-ish summers(assuming you're in the N. hemisphere).

Thank you, you guys rock. I’m really looking forward to these mushrooms, tomorrow is slated for inoculating the logs!

When spawn is busted up it looks like the mycelium disappears. I would leave the bag at room tem to see if the mycelium recovers which is what it's called when spawn is busted up but the mycelium grows back.

Otherwise spawn should be fine stored in the fridge for a very long time. Id use it no matter what. As others have said, what do you have to lose?
