Was pretty disappointed to find the thistle removed from my garden patch this morning. ๐Ÿ˜ž Got some beets planted. Spread some clovers and vetch. Gonna make it too delightfully nutrient rich for the grass to have a chance. I mean, it has a head start, but I'm thinking this is the season this hillside is gonna kick some ass. ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿคž๐Ÿป

Worked on the Voltzwagen this afternoon with Chris. He got some new boards cut for an access hatch while I put the new batteries in and cleaned up the wiring. Tomorrow morning I'll go back out to finish the hatch and hook up the batteries. Then I'll figure out how to get the dang panels to stay facing the sun.. ๐Ÿ™„

Y'ever start reading about one thing and then end up down a rabbit hole looking at sickles? Like this one
 - a thing of beauty. Think of all the chopping and dropping one could do with such a tool.

/stares wistfully off into the distance

Ugh, I gotta get some sleep..

Worked on the Voltzwagen today. Got the hatch screwed together, handles created, latch attached. The batteries are now hooked up and charging, though the solar panel needs to be readjusted so it's actually looking up at the sun. I couldn't lift it by myself, so after everything was all cleaned up I called it a day on that project.

Brought one of the game cameras down with me since it hasn't seemed to work right. Took it apart and found the battery terminals pretty corroded. They're soaking now and will hopefully be rust-free in few morning. If not, it'll probably need to be replaced.

Helped Dez stoke the batch box to prepare it for Taco Tuesday in the auditorium. Then the septic guy showed up a day early, so I raced up the hill to help move stuff out of the way so the truck could get closer to the tank. Got that squared away, so Dez and I took a trip up the volcano to get some quality chit chat time. We had to come down when we got cold and our stomachs began trying to eat their way out of our bellies.

I cooked myself some simple fare up at the house to avoid the circus down the hill. Dez ended up joining me with a plate of tacos, so we got some more quality chatting in over a quiet dinner. Such a pleasant way to end the day. โ˜บ๏ธ

Today felt like I couldn't do much right. Struggled with the Love Shack electrical system. Not sure if the PWM controller is fritzing or what. Got the new starter assembly attached to the propane generator on the Voltzwagen.

Getting ready to do more planting on the plot this weekend. Hopefully the weather will cooperate long enough for that. Gonna make some mini cloche greenhouses to start some transplants. Don't necessarily need good weather for that, but it would be nice. Still need to make more terrace bundles and dig a rut for them to sit in and get staked. Gotta water my elderberry babies too. Plenty to do.

Chris, Dez, and I went to town today. Bought some tasty groceries! Went to a nursery where I wanted to buy all the things, but instead just bought some organic seedling soil. I almost bought some pruners, but decided against it for the moment.

After that was ramen time! Michi.. Oh how I love you.. But the ramen I had today wasn't as good as last time. The flavor profile was a bit too dark and heavy for me. After that, mochi ice cream! After that, ice cream from the shop next door! (You can never have too much ice cream. Though I did only have a kid's scoop because ugh I was so full.)

Then we went over to Murdoch's (who's way too old for this sh.. Nevermind) where I found an electric Stihl chainsaw that I decided I couldn't live without, plus it was on sale! Now I can go cut a stump for my log hive! ๐Ÿ˜ƒ๐Ÿ

Then we went to the main store where I peeked some peepers, ogled a bow saw, and tried on a bunch of cowboy hats. Didn't find the perfect one today. Might need to see if the thrift stores have any..

That store was pretty busy, and we were all tuckered so we came home. I napped on the way home, which made the drive really short! ๐Ÿ˜‚

My upper back has been spasming lately, so I laid down on my heating pad and watched Geoff Lawton's Soil video. I love how he identifies the soil condition by the weeds and their roots. So much attention to detail. Dandelions? Soil is compacted. Thistle? Soil pH is acidic. How he looks at the soil and the systems at large reminded me of Alan Booker's Observation for Design seminar I'm taking. Quite a lot of correlations, really. So far I'm enjoying the seminar class and am excited to get the book in my hands so I can start note-taking in the margins and drawing/journaling in it. ๐Ÿค“

After the movie was over, we went up for the Ramen-Off! Lara and Matt were going to have a contest to see who could make the best ramen. It sounds like they combined their powers (with some help from Kyle and whoever else) to make us a delicious ramen feast tonight! Ugh, so good.

Note: You can never eat too many meals of ramen in a day. ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿœ๐Ÿ˜‹

Had some great conversations today about soil, interpersonal dynamics, forgiveness vs acceptance, and loss. Like the weather today, the conversations were all over the place. I was up, down, then brought back up. Sometimes if you're there for someone else, they'll be there for you too.

Take care of each other, fam. โค๏ธ
