I think the current wording is working for most people, but some people appear to be confused.  So maybe we should explore improving the wording.

Currently, if you go to a freebie page and you have already been offered the freebie, but you didn't grab it during the window it was available to you, the message is"

We have emailed this freebie to you in one of our recent dailyish emails.

Maybe we need to offer a much richer message.  First I wonder if we could say something like:

This freebie was offered to you _____ days ago and you did not grab it during the window it was offered.  But it will be offered to you again in a future daily-ish!

and if the freebie was offered more than once, the message changes to:

This freebie was offered ____ times.   Most recently, it was offered to you _____ days ago and you did not grab it during the window it was offered.  But it will be offered to you again in a future daily-ish!

And then either message is followed by

We have sent you ____ freebies so far, and you have collected ___ of those.   That leaves ____ freebies to be sent to you.  We send you a new freebie every few days.

While you wait, perhaps some of these resources will be helpful:

  - click here to read/talk about our freebies system

  - click here to learn more about this item, and even buy it right now if you don't want to wait

  - click here to see a list of all the freebies

  - click here to see your "my stuff" list - everything you own, including past freebie items

  - click here to see a list of threads related to this item

  - click here to see a list of Paul's videos, podcasts, books, movies, events and other stuff

[I edited this post to make it, i think, much better]

Then there is the case where the freebie has not been offered yet:

You will receive this freebie in one of the daily-ish emails we will send to you.

maybe

This freebie has not yet been offered to you.  But it will be offered to you in a future daily-ish!

I don't see a major challenge to implement any of these.

Some comments:

paul wheaton wrote:And then either message is followed by

[...]

That sounds a little bit confusing to me. What does "That leaves ____ freebies to be sent to you" really refer to? Does it refer to the freebies that were sent to me in the past but I failed to collect? Or the new freebies that I will receive in the future? Or both?

Where would that link go to?

There are currently 39 freebies.  So this message could be written as

We have sent you __6__ freebies so far, and you have collected _3__ of those.   That leaves _36___ freebies to be sent to you.  We send you a new freebie every few days.

There is a thread that sells each item.  And that thread has a "more" link.   I would say that we should use the more link.

I just noticed that we don't have anything in the database to know how many times a given freebie was offered to a user. I can add a new database field to record this information, but it can't work retrospectively.

I really like that idea. I think it will help to draw people further into permies and possibly to areas of permies they might not normally explore. Have those lists already been compiled, or is that in the "to be done" pile?

So what we can do is say "This freebie has been offered to you before." - right?  If so, I think that is good enough.

I do think that we are seeing enough people looking the gift horse in the mouth, that maybe it is wise to not only track how many times it was offered in the past, but the exact date and time.  My spidey sense says that there could be a time that somebody says "it has never been offered to me" and it might be handy to show the dates and times of the seven times it was offered to them.  Maybe even in a way that they can see it so that they don't say "it has never been offered to me."

Jay, look at the "similar threads" section at the bottom of this thread.  And then click on "more ..." at the bottom of that.  That is the "more" page I am talking about.

Big improvements!  Very nice!

The title currently reads "Here's your freebie!"   For people that will be waiting, could we change that to "Coming Soon!"

Above the "we have sent you ...." message, could we please add

This freebie was offered to you _____ days ago and you did not grab it during the window it was offered.  But it will be offered to you again in a future daily-ish!

Can we add the link about the freebie thread here:  https://permies.com/t/135568/Exciting-Updates-Dailyish-Freebies with the text

click here to read/talk about our freebies system

And can we add

click here to see a list of Paul's videos, podcasts, books, movies, events and other stuff
