Gave seeds to the seed librarian just now. Five Valleys Seed Library in Missoula. Might check with them soon if interested.

I've just gotten in touch with the seed library. Sounds like they are coming by on Friday. After which they should have most of my excess.

If anyone wants to trade seeds via mail or just needs some in the greater Missoula area I have a lot of tomato, winter squash, and sweet corn seed. Home saved, amateur breeder's grex or land race style mostly.

Oops I guess I used the wrong term. I meant the bare roots for planting.

Why do you want Elderberry root stock? Are some elderberries grafted? Sambucus nigra ssp. Caerulea our western blue elderberry that grows native here in the Missoula area (and North to B.C. and South to Baja) is a pretty delicious elderberry. I have a blue elderberry in my front yard that Helen Atthowe started and sold me at the Missoula Farmer's market about the year 2000 and a American Elderberry ot Sambucus nigra ssp. Canadensis in the Backyard. Also a newer seedling in the backyard that might be a hybrid that a bird planted.

You could grow your own rootstocks. Though it takes acid stratification.

Unless there is a new Helen at the farmers market who will start them. You might have to order them mail order.

Anyone know a good local source for elderberry root stock?

You are right, the March 28th seed swap was cancelled. Here is the FB event page for it.

Yep Bill founded the RMSA and has taught a large number of seed and grain schools. I joined as a seed steward and attended grain school a few years ago.

Missoula connection he cofounded Garden City Seeds.

I'm going to plan to go to this.

March 28th!

Bill McDorman will be one of the speakers at FVSL 6th Annual Seed Swap. Mark your calendars March 28th. More info coming.

That quote was posted with the following video from the Rocky Mountain Seed Alliance / RMSA, so I assume Bill must be with the RMSA, is that correct?

From the Five Valleys Seed Library Facebook page.

Good question!  I tried to look it up too and don't see anything posted yet.

Maybe they'll post something soon....

Anyone know when the Missoula Seed Library will do annual seed swap? Sometime in March?
