By one person what do you mean? We'd be buying with the intention that myself, my husband and our children would love there at least part time. We are really excited about the possibilities of your place! I'm pretty sure we'd want 2 acres.
And I'm assuming permits, etc. aren't a problem? We live in California where you practically can't hang a flag without the okay of the permitting dept. so don't know what the set up is on your land.
Sounds good. I think we will be in contact and try to come this summer for boots or to do the 'buying' thing. How much is the current price for a 1 acre plot and for a 2 acre? We'd want to pay in 1 lump sum.
Hi,
My family and I (2 adults, 2 small kids) are looking to stay and ideally help as much as we can, on a permaculture farm somewhere in Northern California, Oregon or Washington. Maybe like 2 weeks. Anyone know of a place that welcomes visitors like this? Or even just a b&b that is on a permaculture set up, especially a forest garden. Thanks!
Ben Zumeta wrote:I hope you find what you are looking for. Here in redwood country just outside Crescent City, CA there is a massive permaculture vacuum. Land is cheaper than anywhere in California, and yet we have the highest biomass on Earth just 10 minutes drive and 20min walk away! We are in zone 9a-b depending on microclimate, but with a cool high end (90f). 10mi inland near Gasquet it gets to 100f but the smith river is right there and is the largest undammed watershed in the country so the swimming holes are second to none (20ft cliffs into 15ft of clear water are common). You could find anywhere between 30-120" of rain within 30mi of here (near the HWY 101 and 199 JCT). We have 5,000ft peaks within less than an hour's drive, 7300 in view from the oceanfront, and lots of land for sale by the county (Del Norte) and other random parcels in the hills going up there. I assume you would be far better for the land than most who would buy it, so come on over to Caltucky and do some permaculture with the small but growing community of good people here!
Where exactly is this? If you see any listings will you post or pm me? We are a family of 4 that are also looking for a permie community in Northern California
Hi,
We currently live in Oakland, California with 2 kids and are now looking for some land to turn into our homestead. From what we've read, buying raw land may be too complicated? We thought of just living in a yurt and slowly building an eco friendly, simple house but sounds like permits, etc make this tough. Just wondering if anyone has any advice on raw land vs land with a home, and also possible locations. We'd love to have neighbors, and want 2-20 acres. Anywhere north of Monterey in California to anywhere in Oregon would be ideal. Any and all advice is appreciated! We are new to this but the urban setting is feeling more and more claustrophobic and toxic everyday. Thanks!
