Was so grateful to come across your article. My trouble started when my 5yr old cat began undergoing a personality change - from an outgoing, lovable, people loving feline to one that was progressively weaker who began hiding under the comforter on my bed and would not come out even to eat. I had to slide food under the blanket and sit with him to coax him to eat. Then a noticed a large abraded area under his hind leg. Off to the vet who diagnosed flea bite dermatitis and administered antibiotics and steroids. This improved the dermatitis but his personality continued to deteriorate. Another visit to the vet who advised drawing blood for diagnosis. All the labs were normal but my cat was far from his usual self. Another visit to the vet who discounted my pleas that Max was not right - stated it was all behavioral. Home we went. In the next few days I noticed that Max was scratching the areas around both his ears and that now those areas were abraded. Not willing to undergo another visit to the vet I began searching for alternate treatments. I am a nurse and confident of my ability to nurse this cat back to health. Three things worked. I started cleansing his wounds with chamomile tea. I found the article on diatomaceous earth, ordered a big box and began combing him every day and rubbing the DE all over his body. I hugged and loved him frequently. After a few days I began noticing improvement - now after a few months he is absolutely back to normal. He runs and jumps and plays and never hides under the comforter. His sores are all healed and his appetite has returned. He loves having me rub him with the DE and will roll over and even let me rub it on his stomach. I still comb him every other day or so but only the occasional flea. A miracle. Thanks!
