oh, one more thing i should mention
i changed my plans from steel support to wood support to lessen the transfer of cold from outside and through the double(i am thinking triple) layers
Inge, You`re camping photos reminded me of taking my sisters dog (rip) for a ride in the canoe trailer
the trailer helped me to get things into the property before the road was driveable like these rainbarrels, bamboo stakes and the canoe itself
i did not tow this behind the bike... but using my canoe trailer axle and a wheelbarrow i was able to transport 4 culverts this size down the undriveable road and to
the location where they were required and installed them by hand
in another thread we discussed various towable pop up trailers for camping
i would love to get one someday... possibly with battery assist!
if you made two mini "bridges" with a channel of dirt in them to get the initial root across and established i could see this working with many types of tree
maybe just two logs which have been dug out with a gutter adze
the logs can rot away over time
i hope not to hijack the thread... here is a pic of the paw paw which survived the winter
actually some of the others have as well.... sprouting from near the base
i collected some black locust seeds at work from possibly the biggest one i have seen
brought a bunch up north and took a walk
brought a log dog with me and poured some out of the bag and roughed up the ground with the log dog
i read that germination rates arent the greatest with black locust so hopefully some sprout
i recently got a conga drum from a dumpster
it had a large crack up one side and another small crack
i used ratcheting load straps and some clamps and wood glue to fix it
woo hoo
so i learned yesterday that natural saponins can be fatal to fish
they stated to never use them in aquaponics
it made me call into question using them up north as i am near a trout stream
also i like youre approach because i am like a slave to my plants currently
i usually get mite and mealybug/scale on my plants which i bring indoors
this year however i had issues with aphids and thrips as well
physical squishing and a predator i bought (Delphastus catalinae)
were ineffective at stopping them so i ended up spraying soap and water on the plants during the night cycle.. it made all the difference
i had to remove dead and damages foliage and repeat several times but even after the first time it made a huge difference
i also ordered some yucca glauca seeds recently by chance and then came across a video reccomending natural saponins from multiple plant sources in rotation
some studies have suggested the saponins promote plant growth
anyhow sorry to muddy the water even more
definitely interested in peoples responses thus far and will try some of these tips
does anyone know the name of the other plant he uses with the roundish leaf which you can see at the bottom of the screen in the video (before you hit play)
i think it grows here as well
oh yeah and i found one nearby to one i made
made by a moose it looks like
but they chose to make it in an area of dense brush.... shade already there....
i just subscribed to youre channel
i made some small watering holes like that last year which were full to the brim in the spring but bone dry later in the season
i was thinking of making a little sun shade of some kind for the south side to reduce evaporation
my friend did something like this along the edge of his driveway
he filled the beds starting with brush and wood somewhat like a hugleculture and then dirt/soil on top
not the greatest resolution but in 2018 at least they had many updates per year
then in 2019 there was only 1
none so far in 2020
the highest resolution i could find was a gov of canada site
much better resolution than google etc
i screen captured 88 images.... printed them and taped them together making a 7' by 7' map
i think you mean the plant cannabis
marijuana, marihuana etc likely refer to locoweed and datura
datura being the "devils weed" which can make people go mad
(see the jamestown weed story)
likely the plant being referred to in early prohibition propaganda
see: Home Grown: Marijuana and the Origins of Mexico's War on Drugs
By Isaac Campos
cannabis "legalization" at least here in canada is more of a re-criminalization
we are allowed to grow just enough to catch a buzz but not enough to grow the plant for its many other uses
if everyone could grow it to their hearts content it would not be worth very much
and security requirements would disappear(which drive the price up currently)
if the price wasnt kept artificially high then people would not be running so many lights(along with other nefarious practices) and we could enjoy cheap high quality sun grown organic living soil cannabis
that all said i do want to try growing flax, nettles and milkweed for fibers
nettles are nutritious but do not contain omega fatty acids in a optimal balance of 3 6 and 9
thank you for letting me post in the ulcer factory!
there are poles for picking delicate fruits
the video i saw them in has a crew with some people getting ground level stuff with hand pruners and others with varying length cut and hold pickers
each person concentrating on what is easily picked with their length of tool
i had an issue with mice and bought a trapmaster live catch
it worked well... for some of them
the babies and one adult were caught this way
then one of them learned how to get out and i would see half eaten peanut butter in the trap but no mouse
i saw another trap online and made one which was able to cath the remaining mice
its a two litre bottle with a skewer through the middle ish but such that the balance point tips the mouth upwards just barely
then you mount it in a box so that the mouth is just above the edge of the box
the bottle should teeter up and down just barely clearing the edge of the box
i used another skewer to get some peanut butter inside
mu first attempt failed because i used a cardboard box and the mouse simply ate a hole through the box to get out
the next night i taped a small sheet of metal over the hole they had made
after that it worked great
all the remaining mice were caught and released about a km away in a wild area
i find my aloe is a good indicator of cold conditions due to the colour change as Chris mentioned.
there are many varieties as Hugo mentioned, the one i have multiplies like crazy but stays fairly small
i remember being kinda jealous of the size of a friends aloe and a huge one at a nursery i saw until i learned there was more than one kind
recently i successfully germinated an aloe barberae !
i have: organic mushroom farming and mycoremediation by Tradd Cotter
good book... he has some good videos on youtube as well
i first learned on fungiperfecti (PFtek)
also when sewing with dental floss you may want to colour the floss so it doesnt look so frankenstien
i used a black permanent marker to match the wetsuit
also i mentioned this in another thread
leave shoe goo outside in a dry spot for at least a month as it off gasses nasty chemicals
when i repair my wetsuit and neoprene mitts and boots i would first sew the seam with dental floss
makes a huge difference in the longevity of the repair
helps the sealant to not be stretched beyond its capability
it will be a while before i get veggies going for the spring
however i did start germinating a bunch of palm and banana seeds and some have started to sprout
some may take over a year to sprout...
next time i order seeds i would like to get yucca glauca
just a quick note about shoe repair... if you use the product: shoe goo
leave the repaired shoes outside for at least a month as it off gasses nasty chemicals
