We have a couple of smallish ponds on our property.  Already have cattails, and we enjoy them in a couple of different ways.  Also going to transplant some wapato into the ponds this year.  There was a recommendation for Samuel Thayers books here, and we bought both of them.  Great books.  Buy them for the info on acorns alone.

He also has alot about wild rice.  I see you can buy plants and seed on the internet (can't seem to find any growing wild here in upstate NY) that goes in after 9/15.

Does anyone have any experience growing this?

here's a link for some info - if you use the search function here - there are some other comments/

Sometimes the answer is not to cross an old bridge, nor to burn it, but to build a better bridge.

Thanks for the link Ronie.  I already planted it.  It cost me 49 dollars to get enough for an acre pond.  Gave some away and planted the rest.

Apparantly you can get a 8 dollar permit in MN and go harvest all you want.
