Hi all - this is a continuation of the "Forage Missoula" thread.

I've been in contact with folks at the Great Bear Foundation.  I said I could round up 3-8 volunteers to help glean trees of apples and pears around bear-infested parts of town (particularly the Rattlesnake, I think).  They have a short list of trees that need picking, but depending on the number of volunteers that show up, we may have enough people to hit other spots, if you have any places in mind.  Please be sure to ask the landowners beforehand, so we know it's OK to come pick their fruit.  See http://www.growsheffield.com/images/abundbkview.pdf for a really great guide about fruit gleaning.

The date for this event is Friday afternoon, September 24th, at 1 pm

We will meet at the GBF office to carpool, located at 802 E. Front St.

If you can't make it at 1 pm, my phone is 541-554-9783 if you want to meet us out at a site, or bring in a bunch of fruit from a splinter gleaning operation.

We need to bring boxes for fruit (and firsts to take home), containers for any cider we press, and a ladder or two to help access the fruit.

Please email me if you are interested in volunteering, so I can get a headcount.

Also, depending on the amount of juice pressed, I will also be brewing a batch of apple cider the day after, if anyone is interested in contributing / learning about the process.

Cheers!

Chris

I think this sounds like a lot of fun!  I bet we can get a good crew of folks to help out and have fun gleaning apples and making delicious cider to welcome in the fall season.

Thanks for organizing!  See you on Friday~

Does anyone know where I can glean some apples either today or tomorrow. MUD is also having a cider pressing workshop--Wed at 6pm and its a BYO Apples event. Thanks!

This sounds great! Sadly I won't make it after being hit by a car last weekend. Urgh. I hope everyone has fun!

Destini-
Ida told me about your accident. I'm so sorry but happy to hear you're doing okay. Rest well. There will be plenty of other baking and brewing opportunities to come.
