I have some questions about growing safe organic food.
When gardening in soil or containers we try to be constantly aware of the fact that we will consume the food & all that it absorbs from its environment. This brings me to theses questions below:
If you know the answers Please let me know.
How do you know if your pots are safe to grow food in?? Many decorative pots have heavy metals in the glaze so we stay away from them, but are terracotta pots safe?? do they have stuff that will leach into my food?
& plastic pots can we ever be sure that they are safe no matter what the FDA says??
How do you know if your potting soil, packaged top soil, & packaged compost & mulch is safe for growing food ??
If it says organic on the package is it safe enough to grow food ??
I know they compost human waste... does organic packaged compost have human waste in it
(Sure the best way to know is to compost your own but if you can't at this time)
How can you tell if your garden soil is safe?? especially in post agricultural & post industrial areas around town?? Is there a place here to get soil tested?? or do you have to send it away??
also what about the organic fertilizers, are they safe to grow food??

I just found out that Caras has a pot swap bin in front of the nursery on the east side.
I washed out all the pots I got I hope they are safe to use. At least they are recycled now!
