The Urban Farming Guys in Kansas City have been doing amazing things with permaculture in the roughest zip code in the city for several years now. Here is a great video on how they make the most of free resources to create huge amounts of compost in a short time:

What they are doing here can be done in any city which picks up bagged leaves of residents

Nice Video. I've picked up bagged leaves and grass for composting. One thing I try to do is to examine the lawn that the leaves and grass originated from. I stay clear of weed free lawns, a clear marker for the use of herbicide and I don't want to bring that into my garden. So when you're out Guerrilla Compost Hunting, pillage from nice weedy lawns.
