Hello everyone.
I’ve only just emerged from spending the last five years digging holes in my garden and making films about digging holes. While I’ve been down there, I’ve failed to keep up with the dizzying social media phenomena so forgive me if I’m a little clunky on here. I have been kindly invited by Paul to talk about my hole digging adventures contained within my DVD, “Natural Swimming Pools – A Guide to Designing and Building Your Own” published by Permanent Publications.
A Natural Swimming Pool, or Organic Pool (I prefer “Organic Pool” because it is easier to say and a more accurate description) is a swimming pool that employs plants and animals to create hygienic water without the use of any nasty chemical disinfectants. It’s a beautiful example of how being permaculture minded, doesn’t mean you have to miss out on luxury.
The DVD is a self-build guide and a documentary of the pool building process. First, I show to make a small Organic Pool, step by step. Then, I show how to make a larger pool and how sometimes pool making can go wrong. The idea being, if you can see my mistakes, you can neatly side step all of that wasted effort. I’m happy to answer any questions you may have.
Hi I’m David. I am probably the only person to have two Natural Swimming Pools. The reason for this indulgence was to make a film of the process and produce a DVD for Permanent Publications – Natural Swimming Pools - A Guide to Designing and Building Your Own . I have also made a short film for the BBC about Natural Swimming Pools introducing the concept to a wider audience here in the UK. As a consequence of all of this, I have started giving courses to fellow self-builders who have traveled from far and wide to come and sit in my garden and talk about pools and ponds for two days. What could be nicer?

I've got a question. So I was wanting to put a small pond on my property. Where I want it to go is in the middle of a few large trees. I was wanting the pond to be maybe 15ft by 15ft and maybe 3 or 4 feet deep. The trees that are near it are cedars and 2 maples. they would be around 5 feet from the beginning of the pond. My question is am I running the risk of killing these trees if I put my pond there? Also what type of plants and wildlife would you suggest that I put in there? I live in southern ohio. I'd love to be able to use the pond as an area that I could put my feet in and cool off during the hot summertime.

Looks like a great book....I started digging a hole for my goose, but now I'm thinking I should do more.........hhmmmmm........would love to get ideas from this video!
So a funny little thing about a couple of the recent promotions: people were selected as winning, but then it turns out that they were not signed up for the daily-ish email. So, they were disqualified. The funny part is that so many people were not signed up for the daily-ish email, that we had to run the pick-winner process several times to get a winner.
