Baby steps.
First time posting photos. Maybe I'll gain some finesse later...

So, I planted arugula, a lettuce mix, beets, nasturtiums (way too early, I know, but old seed, so I risked it).
Beans and one tomato under the hotcap.
The dogs are the reason for the fence. They like to eat funny things like dandelions, random plants... my salad would not be safe.
This is just commercial compost on the gravelly ground in front of the barn. Next post I'll show why I want pole beans as early as possible!

The bed and pole beans are in front of this south facing wall and window -- nice for the winter, hot in the summer. Hope they thrive and shade it somewhat.
The shooting stars are nearby, just outside of the drip line of a large oak.

Are you planning to make a more substantial trellis in front of the window?

Yeah, maybe just string from the crossbeam hanging down saying "here little beans...."

And planning LOTS of salads beginning in a couple weeks from the greens not shaded by the beans.
We are going to build a house soon, so I can't start the zone 1 & 2 garden till the excavator clears out.
Will post more about our place soon.
Well, gardening "buddies" is pushing it, since they'd be happy to dig the whole thing up! Somewhere I posted a list of the things I've seen them eat, including greens and broccoli. But I like them a lot anyway.
