I'm currently working on a large house move. This one is a big 4 plex of about 5000 sq. ft. It is just across the street from the ocean, and it will travel by barge. This is the largest house I've ever prepared for moving . It's about 35 ft. tall and far too wide to travel by road.

The guys who film this stuff are looking for other building related stories.

This one will be on a show called Mega Movers.

If any of our members have a project worthy of a TV show, drop your name here with a description of what you're building. The guys in the film crew seem interested in learning about and documenting anything with some entertainment value. They don't live here, and this isn't prime tourist season, so I've offered to show them around. They talk shop constantly, so it will be no problem if I run a dozen story suggestions while we eat and see the sights. I intend to enlist them to document some of my more unique construction projects.

My job is to prepare the building for transport. Most of what I do isn't TV worthy since it involves a thousand little steps that aren't dramatic. So far it looks like my hands might become famous, since I've opened doors and cabinets for the camera and I demonstrated how to clean reclaimed bricks.

The lift crew will have very little contact with the film guys which is just as well since most of them aren't particularly articulate. The foreman is at best indifferent with a little hostility tossed in. So although I'm not a regular employee of the house movers, I expect to spend more time with the crew than all of the others combined. Part of my job is to emphasise the recycling aspect. We want this to become a promotional and sales tool for future work.

All of this came about yesterday afternoon when they found the house advertising on the company's website.

QUOTES FROM MEMBERS --- In my veterinary opinion, pets should be fed the diet they are biologically designed to eat. Su Ba...The "redistribution" aspect is an "Urban Myth" as far as I know. I have only heard it uttered by those who do not have a food forest, and are unlikely to create one. John Polk ...Even as we sit here, wondering what to do, soil fungi are degrading the chemicals that were applied. John Elliott ... O.K., I originally came to Permies to talk about Rocket Mass Heaters RMHs, and now I have less and less time in my life, and more and more Good People to Help ! Al Lumley...I think with the right use of permie principles, most of Wyoming could be turned into a paradise. Miles Flansburg... Then you must do the pig's work. Sepp Holzer

Hi there...Congratulations!

I'm a single mom, with 4 children, originally from Belfast, N. Ireland and have been in the Kingston, Ontario for 11 years now.

Yesterday, I attended a Public Meeting on Climate Change at Kingston City Hall with standing room only.
People are anxious and feel helpless about what to do. Our survival is on the line. This is our reality.

The fear response prompts people to want to go build a survival bunker etc.
I intend to change my own footprint here and now and I want to help others do the same. There is no other option, we are at tipping point.

Kingston claims to want to be the first green city in Canada. I want them to put their money and support behind that claim.
I intend to Go Green, to build green community and I am passionate about that.

I sold my McMansion 3 days ago, 2000sq ft. 4 toilets etc. My son (14) and I do not need all that now. Everyone else has moved out, including my ex and his two teenagers.
I intend to purchase a smaller building, perhaps bungalow, and retro fit it. Present building codes and zoning laws may prevent me. This needs to change if we are to change.

I envision passive solar, green roof, green house, grey water recycle and to raise food anywhere I can, including my on neighbours lawns.

I want to help create community that wants to do this too.to raise awareness that change is possible now. Presently people have simply been given the doomsday vision and feel unable to address the problem of changing climate, peak oil. We need 'degrowth.

I organized a steet party here and found that our quiet, private street was full of people relieved for the opportunity to get to know each other. The response was amazing, moving and heartening. I am not alone!

Ordinary everyday individuals want to know their neighbours, they need community, to be able to share resources, food, transport, labour, ideas and support each-other to go green, to go human.

The book 'Superbia' offers great ideas on how to build community and to create change.

I feel strongly that for television to have any real relevance in our lives, we should create programs that matter, that create change for the better, not simply create images of a non-sustainable existence.

I have a vision of community, of changing the dead 'burbs' to living, dynamic communities of neighbours who meet and and share their time, labour and ideas. I do not want to create a haven out of town. I live here. Everyone lives here. We need to change our habits and habitats right here where we are now and people are crying out for contact, meaning and that is community.

Wish me luck, I'm house hunting next week!
All the best,

Good for you Julie. You might want to create an introduction thread. It's common for new members.

The house is on wheels and ready to travel. A different film crew. These guys came from England. They got me to do some jackhammering but became bored with the pace. They were hoping to see something big fall suddenly. I explained that I intend to do it safely. They wanted to add some drama.
