The first few minutes of this make a very important point about how smart people tend to not reproduce as much ...

One of my favorite movies. I think the intro should be mandatory viewing.

Thanks for the laugh!

*edit: "Water? like from the toilet?"

I'm glad I watched this again, classic...

This makes for great social commentary on what happens when the "battle for ideas" is lost.

All the more reason why the movie should be watched while eating pie.

Great post Paul.

The full movie is now available on youtube again. I've embedded it in the first post.

There's an IQ researcher named Woodley who has proposed IQ has dropped about 13 points in the UK since Victorian times. I have found his work pretty compelling and suspect it applies to the U.S. as well. I suspect that intelligence was more highly prized before the revolutionary movements.

The epigenetic changes- industrial food, excess artificial light, xenoestrogens, etc...- these are the things that are making Idiocracy look prophetic. Often, even the intelligent are badly informed and that bad information is reinforced by the sick environment.

Yeah this video keeps my husband insisting we have more than 2 kids. He keeps telling me it is our responsibility to out breed the stupid. I informed him I'm not stupid so I'm not having any more kids.

Hooray for fools luck - the second time we got twins

On a more serious note, this film had a major influence on me reconsider having children at all.
And there is always the possibility to use a well known agent of temporarily dumbing down to initiate procreation.
I advice the agent and the movie in combination for maximum effect.

This is one of my favorite movies. It is rather scary even though it is a comedy and quite funny, because it is so easy to see we are heading in that direction if we don't do something about it.

I love this movie! High Art for sure. I think it's funny that it was created by Mike Judge who gave us that serial cautionary tale called Beavis and Butthead, because to me it seems like it portrays a world where everyone is that dumb. Too bad "American Idiot" from Green Day wasn't out yet. Woulda made a perfect soundtrack song! Uuuuuuh, uh huh, huh, huh huh... he said butt...

I Denmark they have used the same IQ test on all young men (military conscription) for a century - there is a demonstrable decline in intelligence...
