What's your wishlist for green building info?

We'll be advertising for interns to work on Appropedia, helping to build a resource for green building (among other things) and their first project will be to create one article. I'd like to have a list of topic ideas to suggest to them - and this seems like the perfect place to ask for a wishlist.

So please tell me either names of topics (e.g. solar space heating) or links to fantastic articles, designs or other resources that someone could base an article on (e.g. I love this one about architecture without architects).

To see what we've got already, see the Construction, and its subcategories - or use the search box to see if your favorite topic is there yet, and tell us if it isn't. There are some good pages, but there's so much more to be written.

Thanks for your help!

My wish list is -

  • Alternative roofing options side by side comparison chart, and step by step instructions for any not at the site yet.
  • Addressing the toxic concerns of cement proper as well as ferrocement and other variations such as Cast Earth.
  • Is there a way to waterproof plaster, motor, wood, etc. naturally? And what does it involve.
  • How-To make a hand sculpted bathtub.
  • Focus on the seams of a house envelope - insulation - where the walls meet the roof and floor.
  • How-To make a Russian bell design masonry heater/stove. Base info here --> http://www.permies.com/t/12828/stoves/Homemade-mass-heater

  • All the best!

I would really like to see a compilation of thermal performance data for various green/natural building techniques. There are many approximate numbers quoted - but I have yet to see measured numbers for many techniques. Part of the problem may be that the tests haven't been published for some types of construction...

Here is a bibliography for thermal performance data for straw bale construction:

As someone who's about to move, I'm always on the lookout to check on the legality of alternative building systems in areas as well as code requirements on animals within city limits.

While i doubt it's in any way reasonable to keep an updated link to all the city codes, it would be interesting to map out the "red" zones for specific building systems, and where they can be freely built without trouble.

I know that there are specific counties where anything goes, however some cities/counties/states can be a real pain to work in because of all the unreasonable hoops they make you jump through.

It may not be 'building' per se, but I'd love to see a break down on hand dug or small machine dug wells or water works.
I'd also like to see more on roofing types.
I'm interested in building foundations and I've always wanted to learn more about self producing flooring.
A break down of different types of root cellars / cold rooms would be useful, too.
