Does anyone know where to get lampante oil? It's olive oil made from bad olives or just substandard olive oil. It's not food grade, so it's less expensive to use for oil lamps.
I'm new to using olive oil as lamp fuel so if anyone would like to relay their experience I'd appreciate it.

Thanks

heard a segment on NPR with the author of Extra Virginity. the gist of the story was that a whole lot of olive oil sold as extra virgin is, in fact, only fit for use in lamps (if that). my suspicion is that lamp olive oil won't be much cheaper than the cheap olive oil on sale in grocery stores.

that is probably not even remotely helpful to you. apologies.

That wouldn't surprise me. Still, it'd be nice to know where to buy some and be able to make the comparison from there.
The Extra Virginity site is loaded with info. I've reserved the book at the library. Thanks.

Save your used cooking oil in jars and burn that in the lamp. Screen out the food bits if they bother you, but used cooking oil burns just fine and it's 100% cheaper than buying oil specifically for combustion.

The olive oil used for lamps (and other industrial purposes) is extracted from the pits. Recently, there have been quite a few reports that it is being mixed into the edible oils to "improve profit margins".
