Hi There,
We just moved to Kalispell and are not currently doing aquaponics. We did have an aquaponics system in San Diego where we moved from and we are anxious to get one started up here. Not sure when that will happen as we do not currently have a greenhouse, nor do we have any experience with greenhouses and their heating. I'm not sure if it is possible for it to be cost effective with the need to heat a greenhouse. I'm happy to answer any questions about our previous aquaponic experience and would love some feedback on greenhouse heating options. Aquaponics is very enjoyable!

James and I do a form of of Aquaponics.
We do not eat the fish. They are pet koi so off limits as a food.LOL
We use the outside pond to grow some food, medicinal and eye candy as well as the waterfalls for the visual and audio pleasures.Great for helping stress.. The poop by products from the bottom of the pond as fertilizer base for our gardens. Once we get the chance to put the pex system in the greenhouse floor and change the heat system over for the house to the wood or used oil vaporizer boiler system he is putting in at the moment. Be so glad when that is done...
We have plans to do a small set up in one of the greenhouses. Most likely the pepper house it has the most room.Francine I can offer greenhouse options and information for the Kalispell area.We are south down by the Rollins area.

Francine,
LOL I know how it goes on the forums,Sometimes people get back at ya other times they miss it
,For us right now it is our main garden season, clean up of the big gardens, getting the vege garden and greenhouses reorganized ,planting and starting plants as well as trying to get set up for a couple of demo's at preparedness fairs and gardening clubs..
We are basically an open house stop for anyone who decides to come check our different methods out..We would love a bit more input for the in greenhouse aquaponics..Think we have it designed. We still do not have the pex running into the greenhouses for heat from our house system..So won't be putting that one in for a while hopefully sometime this fall pending on the work schedules.Means more time to twink the concept..Since we would like to move into year round production of at least greens which we can do with a simple light structure instead of having to run the hot two light spectrums. The outside aquaponics,,, we keep pretty and blended into the gardens which most people do not realize are not just flower beds but medicinal and herb beds as well..It is more based on what mother nature allows in our neck of the woods with the temp changes and such..
Your welcome to come on down if you would like,,We are hoping to have our first open house in May,, but we have already had people stopping in asking gardening questions..

Great! We can wait for your open house if you are busy, but otherwise we can come anytime after this Wednesday. Let me know what works for you. What type of fish are you planning on in your indoor aquaponics system?

Francine,
Most days are good for us.I am usually around here somewhere unless we have to do a Kalispell run for work..Been trying to get the gardens done up and caught up but breaks are always a bonus in that aspect you know,,LOL,,At the moment we have been leaning towards something in the perch family because we know they can handle an oops or two in the weather but also because I know I can smoke them and they are still what we consider edible..Have to admit I am not a big fish fan after growing up eating mass amounts of them..So they need to be the most bland types I can find or be something I can smoke..Perch fit that criteria nicely.. But we are always open to suggestions..
