My name is Floraine Kay but some people call me either Raine or Ally - the latter being a shortened version of my Hebrew name. (I'm very pro peace and equality in the Middle east. My Hebrew name is just easier for some people, and most people loathe my pretentious given name.) I'm brand new to the forum. I'm an English teacher looking to be part of a thriving green community. Currently, I live in Brooklyn, New York and I'm looking to move. Since the 80's, New York has been self-combusting and there doesn't seem to be an interest in turning back. So, I've been following forums/blogs in places I'd like to re-settle in. I'm also interested in community service-teaching related jobs and open to being trained in something else. I have a NY State License in English and about to add Special Education. I've only taught at-risk kids and that's the population I prefer. The city is also destroying alternative methods of education in favor of testing for idiotic standards. So, I'm also interested in alternative education settings. Unfortunately, I am also good at helping struggling students get through the bureaucracy, so I'm fully capable/prepared to handle conventional settings.
It's just me and four cats. They're really nice - much more than I am. Two were mine and two I inherited when a friend died, and they have been settling in with my boys this past year.
I hate to be so broad in this introduction, and apologize for this. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
