Hey all!

Just as the sign says, I'm looking for a permaculture design consult on my newly-acquired, 5 acres. The property is in Shasta county, forested, and currently has a mobile home which will serve as domicile for the fam & I whilst we build a log cabin and barn.

I am specifically looking for help with structure placement and water harvesting design (i.e. swales, hugel beds, pond(s),etc.) I'd also like GENERAL guidelines for prep & plant/tree selection. I do NOT expect step by step instructions on how to build the ideal homestead - just some help to get the most out of what we have.

I'm not made of money, but I'm willing to pay a fair price fo good advice. Also, I'd prefer someone who is familiar with the southern Cascades or similar climate & environment.

Please respond to this thread or shoot me a message and I'll contact you directly.

Thanks!
-Jason

Hi my name is Nico I moved to shadta county last year and also have 5 acres. I am not a permaculture specialist bit have been getting more into it. I have oats chickens and a nice veggie garden and have begun 2 hugelmounds.

I would love to speak w you and see what progress you've made and share ideas sometime.

Do either of you know about the newly formed Shasta permaculture group? Check out shastapermaculture.com. They are having a potluck Sept. 5 in Redding. I hopw to be there, with acorn edibles ! I too am new (2 years) to the area and even though I've done designs before, I don't think of myself as familiar enough with the region yet to presume to advise anyone.

howdy neighbors =)

i'm way up north here in siskiyou county, north of the marble mountains =)
but somehow you all are close ish, california close anyway. i've lived up here before years ago, then lived on the coast for a long time, but i have just moved back to this area and am settling in....still getting used to the bioregion, and the sun and heat especially. spent so long on the foggy coastline....

spent an awesome day today wandering around the forest and getting to know the many trees and plants =)
found lots of walnuts, huge pinecones, choke cherries, big leaf maples, and all sorts of interesting things!

yeah...i am also not looking for this excellent job that you are offering, just wanted to say hi.

i feel like i can do the sort of thing you are talking about, and i encourage you to take it on yourself...but hey, whatevers clever if you dont feel ready to without help. i do what i do mostly by feel, and in time, slowly, of course thats how these things go...try to tune in on an intuitively level...try to see how the land wants to be...if this makes sense to you. it just sort of comes to me, like the ideas i get wont leave me alone till i make it happen...or whatever other ways of feeling it intuitively...

best of luck and happy trails =)
