I have a friend in Campbelford, Ontario who is battling to keep her chickens. She's just received a letter from the Town asking permission to come and inspect her property for compliance of the bylaw which prevents her keeping chickens. What's her best course of action? Just ignore the letter and therefore deny them permission to enter? She made it into the Toronto Star! http://www.thestar.com/news/transportation/article/1077796--running-wild-the-fight-for-backyard-chickens Any advice, legal or otherwise, gratefully received.

This guy took on Calgary and apparently won his fight he might have some suggestions. Perhaps it was his rooster like belligerence that helped his cause; not many cities want to get into a legal battle which will cost them lots of money and is very bad pr at the same time.

Personally, I don't see why she should give permission for anyone to come onto her property with the idea of giving her a hard time, but I'm not in any way a lawyer.

Any updates on how your friend is doing with her chicken keeping efforts?

She's been given a deadline of December 12th to get rid of them. That's tomorrow, so watch this space!
New deadline for Campbellford chickens to fly their urban coop
But the good news is that she's been contacted by the Canadian Constitutional Foundation who seem keen to take her case on.

I think there were similar cases in Winnipeg, I heard you could apply for a exemption to keep 2 chickens.
I can't find any proof of this however.
