Although I have family in Missoula, I live about 2500 miles away. I am considering what to do with it -- sell, rent, etc. But that market is very depressed right now.
I had this idea that someone reading this board might want to live there and start a permaculture operation and pay some or all of the rent by selling locally what they might produce. But even though I grew up in Iowa, I don't know anything about whether this would be possible or economical. I just like the idea of it and would love to come see it in action when I bring my kids out there in the summertime. Feels like the right thing to do for my psyche. I would imagine you could raise chickens or goats on it pretty easily and the garden is irrigated and there are fruit trees there.
Let me know if anyone is interested. I would need to have you make a proposal, draw up a business plan, and be able to prove you have the necessary experience and know-how (and references). It would be best if you already lived in that area so you could inspect the property for your plan and had people who could vouch for you. Although my idea is idealistic, this is serious business and you should be forewarned that I am a lawyer by trade.
