Among many other things, the below picture best illustrates what motivates me. Also having safer more nutritious food produced in a humane manner. I don't want my daughter growing up with tv shows and video games being the most important things in her life. My childs entertainment is giving her pony a bath. Milking the goat (even if it takes an hour with her tiny hands) digging potatoes, picking green beans,  sticking the labels on canning jars and hunting eggs. what better way to raise a child?!

Put a bit of sunshine in each day;
Others need its cheer and so do you-
Need it most when outer sky's dull gray
Leaves the sunshine-making yours to do.

What motivated us more than anything else was to live a simpler less stressful life and to leave the rat race behind. We sold a successful business a few years ago when we learned happiness is not determined by how much money we make.

We also like eating food we either raise ourselves or hunt or forage.

For me it was also about getting back to my roots, I was raised on simple country living.

The other thing that motivates us is our desire to live a low impact and earth friendly lifestyle. Taking only what we need and giving back where we can.

We don't have children but we do have an eighteen year old who came to live with us last spring. He is very tuned in to nature and plants and living a natural lifestyle. He actually moved out of the house a few months back and is living in a tent he pitched on the back of the property.
